Thanks to the 47 participants in the top secret Semroc contest on TRF. The contest ends midnight on January 31. The rules are simple; you just have to figure them out. So far, it is close, but JAL3 has a slight lead. The contest prize is also a secret!

Thanks to the 44 participants in the top secret Semroc contest on TRF. The contest ends midnight on January 31. The rules are simple; you just have to figure them out. So far, it is close, but JAL3 and mach7 are currently tied for the lead. The contest prize is also a secret!
That's easy. The contest is to see who can annoy SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED the most times before midnight on the 31.

mach7: How did you manage to do it? I didn't even know she knew you?

I would say what I think it is, but then, it wouldn't be top secret anymore. ;)

Must be a contest to see who can spew the most posts to the new TRF by 1/31/09.
The rest of us are the losers......

Ding, ding, ding. I was going to take it one step further and say, "most threads with pics or words pertaining to Semroc". JAL3 is THE postmaster. I forfeit. :D I don't want to "go postal" trying to play catch up. ;)

I don't think its post counts I think its more about build threads for semroc kits.Just my 2 cents.

Carl said thanks to 47 participants. Have there been that many Semroc build threads from that many members already? Doesn't seem like there are quite that many. Not disputing, just thinking out loud here.

Good point on that I been trying to figure it out myself but being a semroc contest I would think it would have something to do with semroc product maybe not build threads but maybe pictures in general too?

How many threads can you start here and at YORF that feature discussions/reviews of Semroc products? Let's see, there's two days left. Better start pounding that keyboard... ;)

47 he says, Well I dont even see any posts or such that would equal that number for a contest. My guess it would or might have to do with a Semroc rocket of some sort or a build. I think that leaves me out of the running because I dont even have a Semroc rocket so I gess I'm a loser so far.
So to the one who wins this I say good going and congratulations and to every one else good try and good luck next time.

The Semroc/TRF Contest has closed. As many have guessed, it was post related, but not quantity of posts. It was a little more subtle than that. We were looking for posts on the new TRF forum that we would have liked to have made if we had more time; posts that were helpful, informative, and useful to Semroc customers. Customer service has been one of our highest priorities and customers helping customers has been a big part of our success in that area.

As such, JAL3 is the winner of this contest and will get one of the few remaining Red Scouts we have left over from NARAM-50 signed by Vern, Gleda and Betty. Foose4string was second, by the way.

Thank you so very much. I feel a little bit guilty and like a fraud.

My post count has been mostly to help me. People give me ideas and tell me where I've gone wrong. That's why TRF has been such a great boon to me.

That being said, I am not going to turn down an opportunity to tell SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED that I didn't have to pay anything for that rocket that the mailman left.:D

Thanks again.

PS: SWMBO would be much less suspicious if your return label said "Global Board of Evangelism" or somehting in that vein...

True to his word, I found a box from Semroc waiting for me when I came home from church today. (Flu) It seems like I have won a collection of styrofoam peanuts. Oh, and there was a tube hidden in the peanuts. The tube is signed by Vern Estes, Glenda Estes and Betty Estes Geer (?).

I have not opened the tube. I am not familiar with the Red Scout. I looked over the Semroc site, faily quickly and with aching eyeballs, and did not find it. Based on the size and occasion, I would guess its a variant of the Golden Scout.

I have never been in the "kit collecting" end of things; I buy rockets because I want to build and fly them. That is my plan with this one as well but I do have a few questions.

What is the protocol for something like this? I assume an unopened package adds to the value and having my grubby fingers paw the goods detracts from it. Is that right?

The questions having been posited, I do want to thank the people at Semroc who have helped me personally and also my club. My thanks go out as well to the Estes family for their part in starting this magnificent obsession of mine.

Thanks to all.

Well, the point is, you DON'T open the tube!

Never... Ever....

You CAN remove the paper that the Estes' signed, because on the other side is some information about the kit. And Betty Estes Geer is the daughter that was featured in the catalog and the postcard and at least two or three other pieces of promotional material from Estes in the 60's. She is featured on the cover of the Golden Scout instructions.
You admire the piece of history that it is!

Just get SWMBO to let you spend eight measly dollars for a Golden Scout, and build that one.

The Red Scout is a wonderful treat sponsored by SEMROC and the Estes'. I hadn't seen Betty since NARAM-11 (1969). I agree with Roy, spend the bucks to get the Golden Scout. Get a couple so that you don't have to pay for postage ;).
Plus, if you go to the Red River Rocketry site, you can do what I did and give SWMBO a Diamond Ring. My wife got pearls for her birthday and a Diamond Ring (kit) last month. I think that is what sparked the tag line on his website.

Enjoy the history of the Red Scout. Build and fly the Golden Scout!

I had intended to put a history of the Red Scout online after NARAM-50, but everything was moving too fast!

Until I can document it better, here is the Red Scout wrapper. Working on this program with Vern and Gleda over a span of almost a year was a boyhood dream come true. Spending time with Betty at NARAM along with Vern and Gleda and watching them sign and hand out the Red Scouts was one of those periods that you keep pinching yourself hoping you don't wake up.

Thanks you so much for the information.

I think I will hold on to this one.
