I always have goals for the year - not that they get completed, but here is the 2022 list.

  • Rebuild my rocket fleet from my early years (1967 - 1974) A total of 45 models - 18 are completed and 3 currently WIP
  • Finish my L2 rocket and get certified in 2022.
  • Compete more in the NAR National Rocketry Competition
  • Build an Upscale Estes Pegasus - #0806, using BT-70
  • Actually use my Jolly Logic Chute Release
  • Learn how to make my own decals :questions:

1. Finish up my build pile to include final paint and decals to about 20+ rockets
2. Keep attending local launches (may be getting cold here soon but hey, it's Texas)
3. Work on my first HP rocket. Don't know what kit to use first so any good ideas will be most welcome.

Finish my current build before starting another build
Build a new spool (maybe a cluster spool)
Fly the K motor that's been sitting in the basement for a few years
Help the TARC team I mentor get to Nationals
Fly all of my rockets at least once in the year

I've built my level 3, an 8" Prometheus, but will be waiting on a good weekend this coming year. It will test the waiver from my meager confidence level. I don't want to lose it.

I guess I need to post pictures....

1. Build my 4" MAC Black Fly
2. Complete a high power scratch build
3. Build my first fiberglass rocket
4. Complete a successful dual deploy flight
5. Fly an I motor
6. Fly a sparky at MDRA

Last two should be easy. If I get two of the first four I'll probably be happy. I build HPR very slowly.

1: Properly revamp the workshop to optimize things for rocket work, provide more/better construction space and light, and create a dual bench setup where my wife and I can work on rockets together and easily share common tools.
2: Work my way through the Rocket Hospital pile and see if I can get all my birds flying by the start of the season.
3: Tackle a few of my juicy build pile subjects like my Estes Sea Dart, Jayhawk, and Interceptor-E.
4: Buy RockSim and get up to speed on it.
5: Renew my NAR membership (I've been flying w/o since getting back into things), get hearing aids, and see if I can take on some club RSO and/or LCO duties.
6: Build a Frick-n-Frack so I can participate in the insane FlisKits anniversary drag race in the Fall.
7: Fly, fly, FLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .... but actually a bit less so I can socialize more.

1. Build my WM Demon 150
2. Build my WM Mach 2
3. Build my Madcow Nike-Apache from 2018 Black Friday sale
4. Fly Demon 150 on L2500ST at mini MWP
5. Fly Mach 2 on -insert some motor- at mini MWP
6. Fly Nike-Apache on small motors (H242T / F40W?) for shakedown at mini MWP
7. Fly Demon 150 on M4500ST, Mach 2 on K270W, Demon 5 on M1297W, Extreme WM on M1297W; all at Airfest

If I end up doing half of that, I would be extremely pleased.

  • Finish and fly my Mach 2
  • Dip my toe into experimental motors
  • Get my L3
  • Get back into low power and midpower. The local club has finally started flying again.
  • Go to more launches and meet more people.
  • Go to a launch at Black Rock

  • Release our first cluster kit. (Ready to go now, except for the balsa shortage*).
  • Release our first two-stage kit.
  • Design a glider that glides.
  • Sell more.
  • Find a place to fly with a ceiling higher than the lounge room.
  • Fly more.
  • Bring LPR to the masses with some pubic demonstrations.

*Applies to all my goals. 'Hard' balsa, the stuff we want, is in extremely short supply and has mostly been spoken for by the film industry here in Oz. Them chairs what they break over cowboy's heads? Them rooms what they blows up? All good quality hard rocket-grade balsa my friends.

I know the rules are looser in Oz than the US, but this seems like a good way to get arrested. :D

Side note: My wife works in a horticulture library. At one point, she was cataloguing a book titled "Natural Gardening: A Guide For Healthy Public Spaces" and Freud took over. Fortunately, she re-read the catalogue entry before saving "Natural Hardening: A Guide For Healthy Pubic Spaces"

I'm looking at a public launch in a public place with local council approval and support. We have great baseball facilities here. Imagine showing off LPR in a huge stadium with council advertising. Sounds good to me!

I just noticed that you said "pubic demonstration" instead of "public demonstrations." It would be absolutely fantastic to have a stadium-size demo, though!

We have possibly the best baseball facilities in Australia here. This is one of three parks dedicated to baseball.

Stadium seating night launch anyone?

That is really nice. To be clear, though, I think boatgeek was making a joke about the typo in your original post. I agree that PUBLIC demonstrations with permission are a great idea! Didn't they launch an Estes Saturn 5 at the Astrodome way back in the day?

Sandy.

Yup. I like me some typos...

Seems like a waste to have fields that cost $7 million AUD to redevelop and have them used for a fraction of the year. Rockets fill that gap nicely. ;)

We have a nice ballpark downtown and fortunately it gets a lot of use all year. It's a minor league team, but they also use it the concourse around the stadium for a weekly farmers market, rent out the different rooms and suites, concerts, and other events. The concourse and grounds, except the field, are open every day like any other park for the public to use too.

Well, 1st of all, the accomplishments from 2021
- Created a comprehensive Deuce's Wild presentation as well as an associated Sport Rocketry article
- Made it to MDRA RedGlare where Bob Utley, Tom Cohen and others launched a massive Deuce's Wild
- Discovered the upscale Estes Corkscrew and experimented with that

2022 Goals
- Experiment with the tractor spinning rocket
- Make it to a regional or National HPR launch
- Mentor some college teams in safe and successful Spaceport IREC
- Get some traction going on the Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) rocket tracking camera system
- Work with my son on EX

  • Attend LDRS 40 in Lucerne. I’m really glad it’s being held nearby, and I hope to entice some non-rocketry friends and family to come out for it.
  • Build a special rocket (TBD) for LDRS. I’m thinking I need to make another big foam rocket, and maybe I can finally build that foam lathe I’ve talked about before.
  • Just reconnect with rocketry, generally. This pandemic has made it hard for me to maintain my interest, and I’m hoping to pull out of my rocketry funk.
