I'm an MDRA member since last Fall . . . will I get laughed off the field at red glare with my mid power stuff?

Absolutely not! Rockets of all sizes are welcome! I may be HPR certified but I fly lots of LPR and MPR myself. I've even flown Micro Maxx at MDRA launches.

Seems like we are finally getting the upper hand on Covid and Weather comes back to bite us. I have family commitments Friday and Saturday, is there any chance someone will be at the field on Sunday in case there is a break in the weather? At least that I can pick up orders from the vendors?

Probably too late to do much good, but if anyone is flying at Red Glare on Saturday with an Eggfinder tracker, I've got one programmed for channel 919. Just hoping multiple people don't end up with tackers on the same frequency.

Sad that Sunday is canceled (not that I could have gone), but today was PERFECT rocketry weather! Just wish my stupid igniters hadn't cost me most of the day -- thought I would be doing my L2 cert flight by lunchtime, and now I'll have to hope for April!

Still had a GREAT time seeing all the awesome projects!

Had a good time, very different than the smaller launches I am used to. Not used to the slow pace of launches, only managed 5 launches in 6 hours.

I had such a wonderful time at Higgs farm with the whole MDRA crew and everybody that flew there..
This is just not unusual.
A big annual event is just business as usual for these people..
Thank you all so much..

Consider yourself lucky! Two bad igniters made it take five rounds to get my first and only rocket of the day in the air! ;)

But I had a great time regardless, my daughter launched her rocket twice, and our rocketry mentor Dave had a picture perfect launch of his custom 5.5" Nike Hercules. Many thanks to the members of our club who put in so much effort! Sorry we weren't there to lend a hand with setup or teardown this time...

I was impressed at the variety of rockets, and the sheer number of people who showed up, Covid not withstanding. :) My measly low powered rockets did give me an advantage of a sort, as most of the people lined up to put their rockets on the pads were going for the B/C racks, not the A racks. :) I did see some rockets that I'd love to have and fly, but I don't think I can manage to transport them in my car. :( I'm just getting into E/F sized rockets (Executioner/Super Big Bertha), so I guess a little larger may be in my future, though I don't know if I'd try for level 1 or not.

It's a slippery slope, @Bill S! Most of them have couplers in the middle, so you can fit more than you think as long as you "split" them in the car! ;)

Hmmm... didja have to tell me that? :) Maybe if I put the rocket in the passenger seat? Then the wife will be ticked I didn't bring her. :( Having a smaller car kinda stinks when it comes to transporting rockets and gear.

I mean, there is absolutely NO chance that you will keep building larger and larger rockets until you need a truck or trailer. ;)

Well given that I don't really have a viable place to work on larger rockets that need fiberglass work or epoxy fumes (no room on property for an outbuilding), there is a limit to what I can do in the basement and what my wife will put up with fume/dust-wise. :(

If you have a small basement window you just need to install a small blower fan assembly for when your painting or sanding. Even just a basic box fan in a window with a furnace air filter on it works great.

Dust goes outside in the driveway. Epoxy fumes are manageable, especially if you're careful with what you buy. And I've seen a couple roll up in a tiny hatchback at a launch and pull out a 4" upscale Mosquito from the back. Even a normal size hatchback can fit 3-4 L1-scale rockets.

This has been a public service announcement from the Enablers Club. :D

So why was Sunday canceled today? Weather is good your saying?

I saw your rocket sitting out there, I had my fingers crossed! I had a similar experience with my King Kraken, spent 5 racks trying to get that rocket up and finally gave up and moved on.

Nice shots!

Thanks! Quite a struggle, but I got to watch a lot of OTHER rockets fly! ;)

If anyone has any links to photo galleries, please share! I’m looking for some pictures/video of a flight that happened early Saturday morning as all my cameras failed me. Rocket in question was a 38mm min diameter I1299 that suffered a cato.

Yes, I was mostly spectating, but that was not totally a bad thing. There were many impressive flights.

I have some photos and videos that I'll be posting, but I think I wasn't there in the morning for your I1299 cato.

Yeah I went off on the first rack of the day. Wanted to get that done early so I could play around with my other rockets.

Whose and what size Deuce was that? My avatar is my 98 mm on M1075s. (The same picture was also your 2019 Tripoli card.) Mine carried a video camera on the base between the motors.

The video has the exact credits, but I believe it was Tom Cohen on construction, Bob for inspiration, and Scott for the motors (2x O7000, IIRC).

Slow motion video now on YouTube.
