What I did today -instead- of Rocketry.

(Yesterday) Nothing. Well, I did sit in the recliner, bundled in a sleeping bag, shivering and sweating at the same time (other symptoms...never mind:sick::barf:). Or laid in bed under the comforter, shivering and sweating. I've heard of a stomach virus making the rounds and this might be it. Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster that April (younger daughter) had given me some of her antinausea med. Finally was able to keep one tablet down, and even ate a banana yesterday evening. Somewhat better today, though breakfast was a half-cup of coffee, and lunch may be water en glacé (with ice).

What a day. I went 3 for 3 with my morning basketball bets. Won some more on the afternoon games. Not sure of how many. During breaks I played some penny slots. 60 cents a pull. After $4 I hit a small jackpot of $57. Went to another machine later. 88 cents a pull. After $8 I hit it for $34. Went back to the first machine later and after $13 it hit for $18. My buddies from Eugene had a good day betting basketball today too. I hope my luck holds tomorrow. As it is now I'm playing with the houses money. This has been a very rare day.

Swapped out the factory Honda radio in the Crosstour for a JVC to get Android Auto/Carplay. For all the radios I've put in vehicles over the years, this was definitely the worst for creating a rats nest of wiring to tuck into the dash behind it. At least it's out of sight/out of mind once the dash is reassembled.

Even with the supplied T harness to eliminate most of the traditional wire connection work, this one has taken ages. Wiring the camera into the tailgate and running it through the car took several hours of interior work. I'll be very glad to have this all buttoned up and behind me.

You missed your Birthday thread

With all that everybody else has been doing, it makes my day sound boring.

Defrosted the fridge, fed the goats, researched a repair for the 33' Express Cruiser (boat) and now I'm drinking a Black Butte Porter and watching some fresh caught Ling Cod on the smoker. Tonight will be the rocketry stuff.

Ran cables from the desktop down to the PC under the desk. Got the snowball PC mic working for dictation so that I don't have to finger peck this text.

Hit our waterline digging up grass for a garden.

There was no excuse for it, I knew exactly where the pipe was. It was even exposed in plain view about a foot from where I was gently chopping through the grass to remove it. I'd had to fix it before, too.

Damn if I didn't hit it anyway. And then hit it a 2nd time while digging up around it for the repair. 20 mile ride to Lowe's for 16" of PVC.

Just got back from errands, including grocery shopping, getting the oil changed in both her Corolla and Der Red Maxine. It actually cost LESS to get 6 qts. of Amsoil in DRM (2014 Ram 1500 w/3.6L V6) than getting generic synthetic in her Corolla. Never taking a car to Take 5 to get the oil changed again. /smh

Also picked up a KitchenAid 600 w/o bowl, just the dough hook, off of CraigsList for $75. This one will be for propellant, while the KA 300 I bought last week will be for cooking. The guy I bought the 600 from drove away without getting his money. Had to text him multiple times to get him to come back and let me pay him!

Hi everyone. Thank you thank you thank you. Everyone who has reached out.

When I was laid off in Feb I took a long look at life. I decided at 65, having worked since I was 16 to retire. Or TRY to. So
1) I have to sell this place. I have equity. Time to convert it and move to place I can live off profit, some stock investments (not millions I ASSURE you), and SSI.
2) To sell this place requires some remodeling/fixups. While I could simple sell "As Is" doing so would leave a lot money on the table given the location within walking distance to the Pacific.
3) To do the remodeling I HAVE TO DECIDE WANT I WANT TO KEEP and WHAT I WANT TO SELL and WHAT CAN BE DUMPED. The place has to be cleaned out and me gone so they can fix, paint, finish the floors, etc.
4) Because of 3, what I am keeping is going to go into storage. And I am one 65 yo guy trying to accomplish that while to remodeling people and real estate agent are like "Go! Hurry Up!" Which is stressing me to the limits. It's a big house. AND the garage has 27 years of Rockets, Motors, Tubes, Parts, wood planks. cheap power tools, etc. Most of which I want to keep once I figure out where I will land.

Bottom line I am stressed pretty max right now trying to get crap out of here I want, so the estate sales people can sell anything else, so the Got Junk people can more out the rest, so that the remodel will get done, so that the place can be put on the block.

And me? My future short term is a bedroom in my Sister's house in West Virginia. Then? Depending on the sale of this place, a small(er) home in NV, AZ, or NM. I don't *think* Idaho is for me. But never been there. The south? Too humid (yes I know about monsoon season). OR? Expensive. FL? No thanks. Dunno.

So I have launched my last rocket for a LONG time to come. It's sucks because I love CA. It's perfect for rockets and astronomy (depending of course on drive times). But it's also a large state with of course lots of taxes. Not that I cared when I was making a good salary. But on a fixed one? Not so much. ;) (PLEASE NO CA BASHING!)

I missed posting yesterday because it had been a long day. Yesterday my luck held. Had a couple of small wins on the slots. Won 7 of the 8 basketball bets. Today no luck at all on the slots. But went 8 out of 10 wins on my basketball bets. After the casino we came home and I made pork loin chops, pan fried red skin potatoes with saluted squash. They liked it. Lost another flag pole today. That's 6 or 7 flag poles the wind has broken. Tomorrow it's back to the casino. My friends go back to Eugene Monday. If you guys remember the weather forecast I posted and commented that I had never seen a forecast like that for here. I was wrong. It was the forecast for Eugene. Here is a picture of our home away from home during March Madness. The two guys in the bottom left of the picture are my friends.

So far, I have baked biscuits and oatmeal-raisin cookies. The biscuits came out good, but I think I tried to bake too many cookies per pan. One of the pans turned into one large cookie. 🤪

Bought a new car.
Come on Chuck, don't keep us in suspense.....

Yesterday was "Luke days" at the nearby Air Force base. Lots of interesting airplanes, doing interesting stuff. We live about two miles off the South end of the active runway, so we watch the show from our backyard. Here are some of them:

C-17 Globemaster

Jump run deployed four skydivers, but they were too far away to see.

One of my favorites, a P51 Mustang flying with an A-10 Warthog and an F-35 Lightning:

F-16 Thunderbirds:

Their program was usually over an hour long, but due to cloud cover, they had to cut it down to about a half hour.

Still a pretty good show, with jets zipping around the neighborhood:

We also lit up the big smoker and smoked a couple of organic chickens, beef tri-tip and some pork belly. Shared it with the neighbors that showed up to watch the airshow.

The world is trying to tell you something about the strength of your flagpole and/or the size of your flag and/or your criteria for bringing in the flag during high winds.
