Estes Seahawk. I was unfamiliar with that one myself, it is indeed pretty spiffy.

Good project! Your altitudes may be a bit optimistic, but the videos should be great!

Discovered that testing deployment charges is null and void when you forget to plug the motor mount......... oops!

yep.. I even remember thinking to myself that I need to grab a casing and secure it in the motor mount to plug it up. I guess I just got sidetracked with the other preparations for the testing and forgot that one little step!

Primer coated an Estes Patriot today and got to thinking about a scratch build Estes Patriot that I'm working on. As the scratch-built fins were being Q-ed up... decided to "down-scale" my North Coast Rocketry SA-14 Archer that is still in the kit, instead. Got the fins cut out along with the strakes (body tube fins), papered them, and attached the fins after they had dried. (Strakes are still drying under a stack of books to keep them from warping as I did also with the fins). I stretched the rocket body by 4.5 inches (BT-60 tube) which now has an OAL of 27 inches. (The NCR Archer is 47 inches tall when fully built). Installed 3/16 inch launch lugs on the Patriot and the "mini" Archer. (Pictures of the (primer coated) Estes Patriot next to the "mini" Archer... and the box cover of the NRC Archer).

Cool. What color will the paint be?

Make sure to replace those rail buttons before the next launch. Paint/primer will wear off on the rail, making the slots gummy and the rail owner grumpy.

For the last couple of days, I have been going thru boxes of rocket pieces , parts and kits. Going to have a Yard Sale. Heads Up..I have some Aerotech kits and some bigger stuff I most likely will be parting with. It will be a while before I post it.

The yellow got a little runny. I’ll have to mask it off and go back over with white.

Today I finally got around to using my Secret Santa/Rocketman gift certificate to order a 36" Standard Parachute. To date, I have only used TFR chutes which I really, really like.

Got my external fillets started for my L3 build, plus ordered a 50’ extreme streamer from Rocketman to act as the drogue. Well ahead of the power curve for a test flight mid-April (L1000) and the L3 attempt once we arrange for airspace after that.

In other news, I have been asked to join the launch operations team for the upcoming IREC/Spaceport America Cup. I’ve been part of the judging team there the last 2 years.

    Deuce is ready for paint:

Trying something different on this one: no filler/primer on papered fins. In the past I've found sanding it off the paper without scuffing the paper to be very difficult. So this time I spent extra effort getting all the edges smooth, and we'll go straight to regular primer and paint. Once I choose a paint scheme, that is. Thinking of maybe doing something red white and blue, since I have those paints in the house.

After my long tortured scratch builds, was fun to build something relatively quick and straightforward.

Finally finished the steampunk job on my ACME Spitfire (I know it's been done before, but figured I'd try my hand at it). Anyone know where the CG needs to be on this? With all the extra stuff on it (along with foaming the nose and tail transitions) I want to make sure I get it close to where the original is.

Did you ever try 20 minute finish cure on papered fins and if so, the results ? Looks great, by the way, should be beautiful after some paint !

Hey All, I’m new to the forum and thought this was a good thread to jump in on. This morning I vacuumed the mess of super fine balsa dust I created last night while sanding fins.
