A few days late but on Saturday took my sons, nephews and niece to the field to fly custom rockets made for each of them. In total we had 22 launches on the day (30 motors burned counting clusters). Clean up time at home gave me a moment to take stock on my fleet (not pictured on the table are my Mandalorian rocket and an Estes Eagle Glider)

Launched last night with just my two sons and brother-in-law. Put his V2 in a tree on it's very first launch. Fortunately recovered using an extension ladder and a pole saw. Not our greatest launch event; I busted the launch escape tower off of my Redstone laying in the grass, too. But Pigasus had a successful return to flight, and the Venus Probe, with its parachutes properly switched so the big one is on the lander, also did very well on a Quest D16-4; my son's Power Patrol went to over 1000' and landed beyond the trees hat tried to claim my brother-in-law's V2. Pics came out lousy, sorry!

I think the stock Estes V2 parachute is too big. It will get a substantial spill hole. It went half as high as my son's power patrol and drifted the same distance.

Taking a second look at my new Estes Astro-Cram... Out of the box, the camera is filming with the orientation vertical rather than horizontal. The plan is to redesign the nose section and 3D-Print a new one with camera properly orientated. Also the booster is very flimsy, need to build a better one, the stock fins are a little warped out-the-box. It spins...

@beeblebrox I noticed that too. The on/off button is on top of the camera as far as what it shoots. But with the stock nosecone the image is 90 degrees off.

If you come up with a design please let me know. I'd like to print one.

Built some of the motors that will replace the sparky motors we can't fly at Airfest. Not surprising that all but one ended up being red.
Three CTI 54mm, K635 red lighting, K750 red lightning, and the L935 Imax. Switched to AT for the bigger loads, M1550 Redline and an N3300 Redline that we picked up from CRS at NSL back in June. It required grain bonding, so we did it last:

Chris was still smiling when he delivered it to our camp, but Sharon swears she got a good deal on it. I probably don't want to know how she manages to do that, but it turns out to be good timing for our next launch.

So, here's 27,134 Ns of fun, not including the EX motor:

The N3300 is still drying, so it's standing up in the 98/15360 Dr. Rockets casing. I always say a little prayer when I fly that motor casing, I DO love those shiny red casings.
The silver motor in the back is Sharon's 98/10,000 research load, a Don Alexanders slow white we built last month.

Yesterday I started working through my test plan for my GSE that I recently created. Got about half-way through, with a couple of unexpected outcomes. Need to work thorough those now. Might get to them Friday if I'm lucky.

Our lockdown is continuing so it looks like we won't be flying this month :(.

Today I put the finishing touches on my latest rocket. It's a BMS 3" BT with a 38mm x 15" mmt. The fins are 1/4 poplar ply wood. It is dual deploy. I used 1500 lb kevlar shock cord, 20' for each one. The nose cone and boat tail are paper mache cones. I used multiple coats of thinned CWF and then sanded that until I got them smooth. It is 65" long and weighs 65 oz with the chutes. The paint is Rusto 2x. I'm calling this one blue streakView attachment 475437View attachment 475438View attachment 475439
How thick is your paper mache?

- Got my L1 Cert card from NAR in the mail, I feel so official now.

- Slapped another fin on this Estes ESAM-58 I am working on. This one is part of a 3 rocket set I am putting together for the club launches this fall. They are going to get halloween themed paint jobs and my wife is chiming in for the first time on one of my rocket projects!!! 🎃🚀

(One of these days I am going to get her to build something)

I received 2 things from Amazon today. A GI Joe and two whistles. The GI Joe is 6 inches tall and will be a paratrooper. the whistles are supposed to be the loudest available at 142 db. I'm going to try and make another rocket that whistles.

Finished up on the last of the "fun rock" builds for this weekends club launch. This is a rebuild from the original version that took a swim in the pond next to the pads on it's maiden flight. The original plans in the Apogee POF newsletter called for a 18mm mount but it was seriously under-powered on a B6-4. I was able to rescue the fins, strakes, and nose cone from the soggy remnants. New body tube, new 24mm motor mount, fresh paint and decal and she's ready to give it another go!
