This Friday, June 9th at 9:10 a.m. EDT is when this month’s Moon officially turns full. Because the Moon will also be at its farthest point from the Earth at precisely 6 p.m. EDT on Thursday, June 8th — a distance of 252,526 miles away — the June full Moon will be the farthest and smallest full Moon in 2017.
When it is closest to the Earth, it's known as a Super Moon, also called perigee by astronomers.
For a fun fact, when it is farthest from the earth astronomers call it Apogee...Go figure...
