Hi,

My yupiterU MVT-9000 just died after many years of service for me and the person that owned it before me.

I was curious if the Yaesu VX-6R would be an economical replacement. My transmitters are around 217.055 (old walston xmitters).

I don't need GPS or anything like that.

Thanks for any advice.

VX-6R or FT-60 won't work because they are FM transceivers. You need a receiver or transceiver that also covers SSB modulation (Single Side Band). One such transceiver is Kenwood TH-F6A or a high-end scanner like this: https://www.aorusa.com/receivers/ar8200mk3.html
Maybe the best/cheapest option would be to buy a PR-100A receiver (https://www.com-spec.com/rocket/index.html) from ComSpec for $250 and have them reprogram it to your frequency if that is possible.

So, will the Yaseu VX-8DR work?

The kenwood appears to be cheaper and available from amazon for $327.

THanks,
W

Ok,

The only thing that will work are some pretty pricey all-band, all-mode receivers. That said, the best choice above is the Kenwood THF6A on the B Band one can fine tune and use CW or SSB mode for best reception. Some of the all-band receivers
went for $600.00. Alinco makes a possibility https://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/widerxvr/4011.html but I've used the Kenwood myself for testing. I wouldn't buy a Com-Spec unless they could tune one for you before shipping.
