Perfect project to justify ANOTHER project - that nice free-standing cluster box with a relay and a battery you've always dreamt of building! You don't want slow starts with this design.

No need. I use a Pratt Hobbies Go Box, powered by a 12V Car Battery, and a Clip Whip.
