Yup, pretty much anything BT55 or over gets buttons ever since I bought a chunk of rail. I'm way too impatient to have to wait for club launches for anything not requiring a waiver. Anyone have ideas for nose cone shape/design? Can't decide if it should be 3 pointy bits (really not concerned with performance on this one, as long as it flies straight) or a meld 3 into 1 type of crazy thing. Thinking nice and long though, like 6 to 1ish...

Or do I just use it as a mandrel and roll a more reasonable weight/thickness tube? I've had it in the garage for quite a while now and every time I walk past it I get different ideas. Damn thing's haunting me...

I'd probably roll a cone that fits over the top of the tube so it overhangs the tubes below. Don't hide the funny shape inside another tube--that's the glory of this thing!

Guess I didn't explain my intentions very clearly. I was proposing a CAD/3d printed cone that is the shape of the tube. At least at the shoulder/base, then transtions into either one or more "tips". Just gotta find some of that elusive "spare time" to sit in front of the computer for a while, probably quite a long while in my case.

If you can 3D print it, I think something like three bulbous Bertha type nose cones, fused at the base, would fit the genre of some kind of sci fi curvy tube thing

Oh I can print it, got that end of things nailed down pretty damn good. Creating it in CAD is my current weak point. Actually, a more accurate statement would be "patience is my weak point". As I said earlier, I can and do muddle my way through, but almost never in a single session. I reach "that" frustration point and walk away for a few minutes/hours/days/weeks until inspiration strikes again. Considering the total number of hours I've spent dabbling in a few different programs (really need to find one I can live with and stick to it, cursed keyboard shortcuts and fading memory/retention with getting older. Really hard to deal with all these damn "kids" making me feel stupid in that regard) I really can't complain. I have yet to hit that eureka moment where it all clicks....Oh yea, almost forgot about my p$#@ poor typing skills really holding me back also. When you have to actually physically look at the keyboard every time it adds an order of magnitude time wise. Took typing classes about 18 years ago and barely managed to hit 20 wpm. I just can't "get" it, was counting on technology to make typing/keyboards obsolete by now. That's one area where all this crazy new tech has completely failed me. Maybe instead of focusing on AI that tracks and monitors our every movement "they" could have shifted their focus towards more helpful things? Apologize for the rant, but it's early and there's no one else around/awake to be on the receiving end;)

If you're like me and have an easy time thinking in math, and have a little programming experience, then OpenSCAD may be the answer. I find I am constantly muddled by conventional 3D CAD programs, trying to manipulate 3D objects with 6 degrees of freedom using a 2D mouse is just impossible. (Changing the view is still a big challenge, but moving the opbjects relative to one another is easy.) OpenSCAD made matters hugely, hugely easier for me. It takes time, but progress is steady and intuitive so the frustration is low to non-existent.

Yup, I've toyed with it and really do have an easier time with math than manipulating renders. I just find the GUI irritating. Unless I'm doing something wrong (which is highly likely) I just need the visual in real time to back up the numbers and it doesn't seem to be un-laggy enough in that area..Odds are I'm just too damn picky about these programs and shouldn't be complaining about open source stuff in the first place. Paid software is different, you bought the right to bitch...

While I'm on a roll, might as well bring up Simplify3d. Spent 2 days troubleshooting it and it still refuses to open. Waiting for a response from them, impatiently waiting. Word is they're coming out with a new update soon. A Paid update. Out of disgust I just yesterday downloaded CURA onto my CAD machine so I had something to use other than my clunky/slow laptop that takes 10 minutes to slice anything in CURA , which is a good part of the reason I haven't used it in quite a while. Even though I like CURA, I've been forcing myself to use S3d since I paid for the privilege (it definitely has at least some advantages but not world changing). Turns out the latest version of CURA has some pretty cool new features. If any of you have yet to update to the latest 4.something.some.thing, I'd recommend Ya do. Might just give up on S3d altogether if they're gonna ding me for updates...

Are you aware that there are two renders? The full detail one takes a while, but you can get a screen only (I think) decent-but-lower resolution which is quite reasonably quick. Hit F6 if memory serves (It's been quite a while since my computer crapped out) and it comes right up.

I hit that a lot, basically every time a edit a code chunk. But you course you wouldn't want continuous updates every time you update a line of code, since those would often be broken until you finish modifying a chunk.

In case anybody else might be (theoretically) interested in obtaining some, those tubes are ULine model S-12645 "adjustable tubes". See https://www.uline.com/BL_3705/Adjustable-Tubes . The pairs are $19 each with minimum qty 15 + freight though.

ULine actually has a whole bunch of different 0.125 wall kraft tubes in various ID's all the way out to 10". Most of the ones up thru 36 inch length can go normal shipping. The one that has always tempted me is the 3" x 56" S-6241, where $100+shipping (similar to the price of *one* glass tube) will get you a carton of 25 tubes. The OD there is 3.25" so you'll be making your own nose cones.

They are really nice tubes. They're super straight, the fit is spot on and the whole thing slides like butter. Even better when they're free. I took the guy from the business in the adjoining space to my shop to a launch once, without even asking, he's been saving any packing materials that appear interesting for me ever since.

Well at least someone/thing is paying attention. Somehow managed to push an ad for this through to my Focused Email inbox. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YTJRW6...lkim&utm_medium=shortlink&utm_campaign=native Pretty creepy huh?
