Acetone. About 3 parts Bondo, 1 part acetone. The usual amount of curative for the amount of Bondo. It dries to touch in about 1/2 hour but takes a couple days to be sandable without clogging the paper.

Tom,

I followed the pictures. Pretty neat using the thinned bondo. Did you use the chip brush to apply the thinned Bondo?

I just used a cheap 2" brush. The same as I use for epoxy when glassing. I did go through 6 on the entire rocket for Bondo, several more when glassing.

I SO need to convince my parents to let me get to Oburg in April...

EDIT: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! I have a boy scout camping trip that weekend that I am required to go on (I am a troop guide).

I like the thinned bondo Idea. I'm sure the extra sanding is worth the super-slick finish in the end. I'll be doing this in my next build, thanks for the idea!

Also, looking AWESOME.

Some more sanding, then the first assembled pic  Deuce98 83a.jpg
I got out the mixer. A 10 Kg batch will make enough for both motors.Deuce98 85a.jpg
Finally... primer! Deuce98 86a.jpg

Also, rigged the recovery. L to R Quick link to booster, 50' 9/16 TN, quick link to altbay, 5' TN to 6' drogue. The other harness for main, quick link to altbay top, 15' TN, quick link to nose and y harness which is 10' TN and 15' flare chute main each side.Deuce98 89a.jpg
Any activity MUST be examined by at least one of the cats :)

I did the nose cone interior today. I decided to have a 3" tube for some access to the inside of the nose cone.
Parts, bulkhead drilled out to 3" and eyebolt relocated, length of LOC 3" MMT, and parts for a cap (coupler, piece of MMT, bulkhead). Deuce98 91a.jpg
I epoxied the tube into the tip of the nose cone. Deuce98 92a.jpg, then the bulkhead Deuce98 93a.jpg The cap for the tube is to the right.
I also mixed a 10Kg batch of 68-10, enough for 7 98 mm grains and a couple golf balls. Deuce98 90a.jpg

Great balls of fire! Really looking forward to seeing this fly soon!

I masked off and painted the yellow on the main body. Deuce98 94a.jpg
I also painted the payload section and nose blue. Even though I allowed a full 2 days for the white to cure, there's quite a bit of orangepeeling on the nose.

Looking really good , wish I had the money and know how to make my own propellant, but maybe time will tell

Tom, are you still planning on flying it next week?

Can't wait to see it!!!

Todd

I completed the rocket today, it's now ready to prep.
I masked off and painted the blue on the booster section. Deuce98 95a.jpg
A couple hours later I removed the mask, 18mm Deuce for scale :) Deuce98 96a.jpg
This pic shows the camera mount, also the Unistrut rail guides. The camera is mounted so the lens is in the center.Deuce98 97a.jpg
This pic shows the motor retention, tubes slit and hose clamps. A wrap of tape will be around the motor above the slit to increase the diameter as backup, also tape over the MMT-motor joint.Deuce98 99a.jpg
Finally, a pair of 98/7680 M1100's for power. 7500 N-s, 7 sec burn. Deuce98 A0a.jpg

Hopefully, the next pictures will be on the pad

I'm not going to be able to get down there this weekend either....maybe Freedom Launch. Unless I get down there one month this summer after the boys baseball seasons are over.

Tom, this thing looks incredible!! I can't make it to see her fly but I hope to get to O-berg at some point this summer. It's been too long. I hope you plan to fly her again soon! Smokey M's perhaps?

YES!! MY MOM SAID I CAN MAKE FREEDOM LAUNCH!!

AKA, I get to see this thing launch...

Well GREAT! You need to do this launch. Everyone that attends is usually real friendly and fun to hang with. I've been to 2 Freedoms and one ROSCO launch in the past couple of years. I just hope the temps aren't like they were last year. I melted a dozen times.

Usually?

Everyone I have met so far was killer friendly. Can't speak for the folks I hadn't met though. Attendance is pretty decent there. But you'll feel very welcomed in this crowd. And if you put my comments under the microscope, you might read more into it than was intended.
