What did you do rocket wise today?

I did a practice run on a mock fin can of my first tip-to-tip fiberglass layup. Working on a high performance 2-stage rocket, where the upper stage sees transonic 3 times (once during boost and twice during sustain) and goes supersonic once during the sustainer stage, so the fiberglass is on the upper stage fin can so it can survive all of that stress.

Just watching Woody go for it!

EDIT: TEA-TEB ground issue, 5.100 scrub @~2:30

Put some paint on the Venus Probe. Still more to do. Found a place to hang the last rocket. It is getting harder to find a place to put these. I might have to take some over to the storage unit. I just did a quick count of what could go. About 15 or so. Put color on the airplane. In a couple of days I'll start on the details.

The weather was cold, but we got out and flew this lot. Scratch built Goblin BT20, Norad BT50, Pencil BT55, BB Hawaii BT60, V2 BT80, and a shortened Aerotech Mirage. All flights went well, although I have some cracked fillets on the Pencil. The Mirage delay was drilled to 7 sec, but video shows it was only 5 sec, so had a high speed deployment and tangled recovery gear. It was the last flight of the day and the Runcam battery would not work due to the cold. I removed it and warmed it up on the exhaust manifold of my snowmobile. It worked, and the battery was good to go. This CTI G54 melted the liner and I spent a considerable amount of time scraping it off and cleaning the inside of the case afterward. With the offset core, I don't see how that could be prevented.

Delay drilled to 7 seconds, but turned out to be around 5 seconds.
High speed deployment and recover gear tangled. Some body tube edge damage to be repaired.

Finished a 3" LOC Forte'. 38mm converted to dual deploy. Pictures soon.

Also, Started a 4" 54mm MAC Arcas with custom boat tail.

Mac stuff goes together too easily. I wanted this project to take a little longer.

I started my log book!
And going through the pain of logging every flight ever… well most of them. I don’t have vids of some of my old launches. But I’ve been meaning to start it for a long time.

That is an awesome image of the flame plume. It might be partly a photo artifact, but it is awesome all the same.
Must be something wrong with his camera, all the grass came out white! Maybe just my perspective from down here in AZ.....
Anyway, thanks for the great launch report @RocketTree. Nice looking fleet too!

Learned a lot about Open Rocket by modifying a Red Nova into a two stage rocket (gap staged) for a future build.

Resisted sanding today on the BOMARC, although I did take it outside in the sun to inspect what it needed after the primer, and found it still needs some CWF for divots in the wing top fillets. Too visible to let slide. sigh.

I put the legs on the Alien Pod and painted the Alien from the Venus Probe. And did a couple more minor things. I was in Walmart to get some foam board. They have the Easter stuff out. I saw a package of plastic eggs. I said to myself, Nose Cones and bought them.

Received my order of LPR body tubes from Ausrocketry. That means I can make a start on my Radical Rocketry Thunderbird 3 kit. Read the instructions/guidance for that also.

I have a council appeal in a couple of weeks so I am spending a lot of time prepping for that. Will get to TB3 after that I think.

I just screwed up $15 worth of graphics from sticker shock on the maxi alpha as both of them ended up being crooked, and once they're down you're done. I'm mad enough to smack every grandmother right in the mouth.

Did you use a dishsoap/water mix before putting them down?

Drop Mark at Sticker Shock a quick email. If there is a way, he will know.

A friend does graphics and said to take a hair dryer to them with a plastic scraper to get them off. My wife came in to see what I was cussing wildly about and said she doesn't find anything wrong, but every time I look at it, I'm going to be depressed knowing that NOTHING is perfect. I may just give this GD thing away at the next launch.☹️

I understand, and I agree with both of you. It's obvious, but not super bad. Someone would just shrug, and someone else (you, I) would be bothered by it.

I suggest you contact Mark and see if he'll cut you a break on a replacement. He's got all the setup done, so running off another one should be easy and (I'm guessing here) cheap.

took advantage of the 75° weather and sprayed the nose cone again of the Maxi Alpha, as the Rustoleum didn't quite cover as good as I thought it was going to.
