I think what Ben meant was that it would be even more useful to do the "touch the clips together" thing at the pad to avoid an M going off in your face. Certainly would be worse than a C going off in your face. Not that they wouldn't both be bad, but if forced to choose between the two....
You shouldn't be forced to choose between the two.

It's good practice even if you're only hooking up a Micro Maxx. I got the same implied message that Mike did, which was: It's ok to be lax with safety if it's "only a model rocket".
 
I apologize for sending the thread off-topic.

I was adding to DaveCombs good comment about what he learned during his Level 1 high power certification. Verifying whether igniter clips are hot seems like good practice for H through O motors. The same habit can be use for low power flights. That is it.

I do enjoy reading the good comments on home made launch controllers. I will stick to that topic for now.
