This is a pretty good synopsis of the engineering challenges facing the Apollo program and the Saturn V in particular.

I believe that's the Saturn V part of the excellent multi-part series "Moon Machines" (which reminds me that I definitely need to buy the DVD):

Part 1: The Saturn V Rocket
Part 2: The Command Module
Part 3: The Navigation Computer
Part 4: The Lunar Module
Part 5: The Space Suit
Part 6: The Lunar Rover

I have been reading “This New Ocean, the History of Project Mercury” on my kindle (discovered it's available FREE on NASA!! https://history.nasa.gov/SP-4201/toc.htm) and it amazes me they had not really flown Mercury yet and were starting in on the planning stages of Apollo...pretty fascinating history. Another excellent read is "Apollo" by Murray and Cox. The amount of stuff we didn't know at the beginning of Apollo boggles my mind.

If you really want to know the nitty gritty details of the Saturn rocket development, there are these two DVD sets:

https://www.spacecraftfilms.com/themightysaturnssaturnv.aspx

However, what I think is the best part of both of them are the development progress reports which are also found on YouTube. They really show what a gargantuan effort this was:

I always thought this shake test was cool (especially since I have had to help with some of our own at work)
