Try three and the JATO Car did not make it.

Well it's not the end of rocketry as we know it.

I think Tim did it better with the snow mobile.

Update: They are upping the ante by 20% AND TRYING AGAIN...

Just finished the episode... FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!:eek::::kill::duck:
On a more serious note, I was mildly impressed by the safety measures they took, but am still in awe that they put 6 P motors on a car....

I am horrified by their modified dump truck "The Beast". It becomes a locked tomb when the "shield" is in place. There is no way to open the doors when it is down. Additionally, it requires the engine to be running to raise/lower it. Once again, it doesn't look as though they really thought things through. "Don't try this at home, we're what you call insured"

What's more amazing is,,,, I have been watching this show for 10 years!!!!! I VIVIDLY remember the first rocket car. MB ROCKS!!!!

I disagree. Both cars in the show at least went straight for a little ways. Tim's 'mobile went unstable right off the bat.

Sure would be nice if they'd stop referring to the rockets as "pipe bombs" when they fail or the rocket burn as a "controlled explosion.":bangpan:

Wow. Never even thought of that! Yeah, now that you say that the truck doesn't look so safe anymore.

I'll admit, while I thought it was cool, it also made me sad -- Erik Gates helped with the original, and he's no longer with us.

Any details on the motors? Who made they and the like.

The snowmobile was just a stupid idea from the start and incredibly dangerous. One of the dumbest ideas in rocketry ever IMHO. At least the myth had some merit.

I think that was the difference. While there was a weak attempt at finding C/G, Eric would have told them the REAL problem was thrust vectors. He could have flown that car so well the ghost of Evel Knievel woulda smiled from on high. R.I.P. Eric, we still miss you.
( So we have a new standard? Miles per N/s????)

I liked the clip from the movie Darwin Awards with Luke Wilson .

Also think I spotted the Whats Up Hobbies truck and trl in one of the history shots - was wondering if it was Andy or Jack supporting then.

After carefully analyzing the situation I noticed a couple of flaws in their attempts. First off the ramp needed a more gradual and progressive incline to prevent the front of the car from smacking the ramp, and also reducing the rebound of the car impacting the ramp which put it nose down upon take off. I also think the motors should have been tilted up a couple of degrees to help keep the nose up.
Hey, we should all pool our resources and show them fellers how it's done.:fly:

I know who made the motors, but because of privacy issues won't say more.

I realize it's a popular television show, but...

I have to question whether I want a group of individuals responsible for bouncing a cannon ball through a man's mini-van and home, playing with P motors.

I think not.

It may be entertaining, but I don't think it's a very good idea.

Ok Mason. We all get that you don't like Tim. You can let it go now. :eyeroll:

I would have to agree, the snowmobile was pretty dumb. If you strap enough motors to anything, you can make it fly, but that doesn't make it a rocket.

It was for the Odd Roc competition. Was the Tiki Bar or Jim's flying console TV any different?

I'll be honest, the Odd Rocs don't do much for me. The porta potty was kinda funny, but the tiki bars, manikins, grandfather clocks etc., just don't blow my skirt up.

I mostly agree. I was just saying that Tim's snowmobile was no different than most of the others. There is no reason to single out his project.

That's a great question actually. The thing that was frustrating for me with the snowmobile is that it did not appear that any home work was done to ensure some semblance of stable flight. Hanging it from a tree does not count. Whereas that is not true for the TikiBar as far as I know.

But two(?) years later and it's still talked about. So in an advertising (sort of) way, it did work. The Tiki bar also had just as successful landing as Tim's snowmobile, just with the chutes.

He could at least have started with launching a Flexible Flyer on a K550, then scaled up!

I second that. Much rather see a real rocket, loud and fast, lots of smoke and speed.

Finally getting around to watching this episode. So what are these engines?

Things I noticed, all the energy seemed to be sucked up by bouncing off the ramp. The cars suspension should have been stiffer/solid. The timing of the thrust could have been better too. I think if the balance was a tad better they could have gotten a decent flight.
