Pictures to look at of my TFR Ball Buster Im working on.
Now that I got the first TF cut into the ball,I transfered the pattern of the cut onto a BT-70 tube. Ill cut the tube and lay that against the ball to mark out the other cuts.
Im going with 4 TFs.
The reason for the loooong Bt-70 that is taped to the ball, well thats to see that the cut is in line with the main tube thingy.
The short TF is a Bt-70 coupler I taped on to GET THE LOOK.
Not sure how long Ill make the TFs.

Heres a pic of the cut pattern transfered onto Bt-70.
OH-YA, the paint is whats chipped, not the ball.
Kinda fools ya looking at the pictures.
The ball is a Dollar Store xmass ornament.

Got it all cut out.
Had to temp CA pieces of tubes in the cuts to support it.
I rough cut it first with Dremel and then finished with 220 wrapped tube.
Now, Im not sure if Ill go with the tubes or fill the cuts in and put fins inbetween the cuts.(See pic of it on kitchen table)
Hard telling not knowing.
Does anyone really care anywhoo....:confused2:
I guess put tubes in the cuts,no-wait,fill them in,no go with tubes,no..fill them......
Eets Crazay...

How about tube and fin?
Half and Half kinda sorta.
I took a break and Sandy and I went out for dinner.
I came up with a million ideas and finaly settled for this.
I really wanted to see the cut outs and this will do it for me.
The pics are a trial run to "GET THE LOOK"
I am also thinking TTWF would be a good thing.

Scotty,

are the cut outs for the fins on the ball going to remain open where the fin comes through the whole?
Reason I ask is, if it's open, I'm concerned about air turbulance within the ball. Maybe I'm not seeing in your pics the full idea.
Please excuse me if I am not seeing things correctly.
But I like the design, way to thing outside the box, er...Ball :)

Take a closer look at this pic....The cut-outs will be covered.

Managed to get a little done today.
I got the cut-outs filled in and cut out the fins and outer curved tube fin tips.
After I got the pieces- parts cut out, I just tacked it together to "Get the LOOK"
2-1/4 plastic ornament on tube and plastic bulb for NC
(more DollarStore stuff)
I also am thinking of strakes around the middle ball.I drew it up and think it would look better if the strakes only went part way around the ball,as if it was craddled.
Anywhoo- I got to pull it apart and CA the balsa fins and inner parts of the fin tips
Do some more filling around the cut-out inserts,BT, and all that jazz.
Got some work to do to NC yet.
Thinking maybe paint the pieces parts before final assemble.
"Hard telling not knowing" is my line.
Its all up in the air....thats what I LOVE about how I SCRATCH BUILD!!!!!!!!
It is what it is and sometimes it isnt what it is..
OH-YA ,Have I mentioned "I like FAT-BOTTOMED ROCKETS"?

Scotty, looking at these recent photo's, I had a brain fart.
The larger ball at the base end I'm looking at.
Wouldn't it be all sooo cool, if the thing would fly with the fins and T on the end completing a full ball...meaning retracted to make a complet sphere:
Upon ejection charge (short burst off the pad with a booster) the fins w/the T Popped out and continued on a sustainer stage to great heights?
I know if anyone could do such a thing, it would be you.
But, that's just a thought in my twisted mind.

ILLUSION, yup, thats what it is.
I mentioned that exact thing to the wife,"this looks like the fins have been extended out from the ball and could be retracted like on a Starship type rocket." is what I says to her.
Thing is, the fin tips are not curved to go around or match the sphere if ya will.
Kinda looks like they are and you get that illusion I guess.
Anywhoo...Its good to have a twisted mind.
Im really digging this scratcher..it looks way better than I illusioned it in my mind.
Thanks for the interest in it.

Your welcome Scotty.
It reminds me of the puddly jumper.
If you are familure with the series Stargate Atlantas, you know exactly what I mean. If not, that's ok.
We go rained out one day at work and went to the movies.
The original Stargate movie was on and that's what we watched.
So that whole line was a very big part of my TV life for almost a decade.
*I do Believe!*

Tonight I did absolutely nothing on it.
Oh Well......somedays..............it is what it is. :D

What a great ship!! :cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:
:clap::clap:

Got nothing done? Sometimes that is the story of my weeknights. Just not 'nuf time between work and sleep to make the time in the shop worth it.

Is what it is.

You have fertile mind.
:D:wink:

I've been checking in on this thread the last couple of days, and each time I realize that it's so cool that I keep forgetting to actually say,
"that's so cool".

So.

That's so cool!

Another great looking build. Looking forward to some pictures or video of the launch.

Thanks for the interest TRFers.

Seems taking a day off helped.
I wanted to fatten it up some between the bottom ball-middle ball-NC.
This is what I came up with thinking about it lastnight and today.
BEADS!
Ill have four half tubes with half a bead on each end around the bottom.
Ill put these inbetween the fins.
On the top Ill use full beads on the ends of full tubes tubes.
Not sure if Ill have the top balls touching BT or have a spacer to hold them off it just a bit. Hard telling not knowing.
It adds some detail ,girth and helps the look of it overall.
Ive weighed all the parts up to this point=108gs
I dont even want to think of the "P" word at this point.
The "N" word does come to mind and I think Ill ask yous guys=
Can you NAME this rocket????????????????????????????????????????????????
I do like "Ball Buster" but Im open for suggestions.
Anywhoo-heres what all that jibber jabber above looks like.

I'm really liking this project. But I have to say, I almost wish you had stopped before this latest addition of beads and rods. However, I suspect your vision will surpass what I am seeing and I am hopeful that it will be as spectacular as what you have done so far.

It aint over yet. I looked at it this morning, the rod and balls on top do look a little big.
NOW :eyeroll: Im thinking of getting some smaller beads/balls and use 1/8" dowels and go with 6 around the top.
Im also thinking of a half sphere on top of the bottom sphere .
My vision is to have it all roll together and not have many sharp edges/straight lines.

Shapes of things before my eyes,
Just teach me to realize.
Will time make men more wise?
Here within my lonely frame,
My eyes just hurt my brain.
But will it seem the same?
