So the local rocket club, Wright Stuff Rocketeers, went and saw Star Trek Beyond last night. It was a pretty good movie, essentially escapist entertainment.

If you see it in 3D make sure you watch the end credits. They do a flight through space that is pretty darn good.

My wife works at the local Air Force base and we decided to give a couple of tickets away. She contacted the supervisor of the admin group that supports her office and asked the sergeant in charge if there were a couple of airmen who deserved a little treat. He came up with a couple of airmen first class and passed the names along to us. We arranged for them to pick up the tickets right before the show since I would have to get the extra pair of tickets from the rocket club right before the movie. Unfortunately, there was a mixup in communications and the airmen went to the wrong theater. I called the theater manager this morning and she arranged for a couple of passes to be issued in lieu of the unused tickets. So hopefully, the airmen will get to see the movie sometime this weekend.

I only bring this up in case anyone else wants to do something similar for some young enlisted folks near them. These people don’t make much money and something small like a movie ticket can be a real treat for them. And this wasn’t my idea either, we got it from someone my wife works with when he purchased some extra movie tickets a few months ago.

Kudos to you Zeus. My son is stationed out there, though not for much longer. I'm glad to see some people appreciate what these young men and women do to serve their country.

Most of the early reviews I've seen have been pretty good.

Less convoluted and contrived than "Into Darkness."

It could be that JJ Abrams stepping back from day to day control of the series is what the "Abramsverse" needed to really find its stride.

I am a life long Trek person who was ready to write off Trek after the last movie. That said, I just got back from seeing Star Trek Beyond, and it simply kicks ass!

Is it necessary to have seen the last movie to understand this one?

Not really. Know that at the end of the last movie the crew of the Enterprise was sent on their 5 year mission, and have been at it for a while. That should be enough.

Thanks. I was thinking of going to it tonight, but I'm sitting here watching 007 movies on Starz and just realized I'd missed the last 5 minutes from falling asleep. But it's only 6:15!!! The heat the last couple of days really sops your strength...

Most movies are released in foreign countries 3-6 months before here. Many times you will see foreign subtitles, usually Russian or Arabic. After released here they are replaced with english versions.
There are sent in the form of some type shared sites.Don't have any idea how they works, but considering you can watch any number of TV shows also & it's open site available to all.

If anything was illegal I would think they would have been shut down long ago, like so many of the free music sites were.

Work rented out the theatre for opening night and I also thought it was well done. Good pace, nice tie-ins with various Trek lore...can't wait for the USS Discovery series this fall.

My thought exactly. Are we advocating theft on this forum now?

I STREAM videos a lot, I have never downloaded a movie or music. Yes, the sites that host these shows are in foreign countries and even then you have to watch where you go to watch or invite all manner of keyloggers and viruses. Putlocker was in the Canary Islands and then Malta and I think they are hosted in Iceland for now. Putlocker doesn't actually have storage for these movies, many other places actually have the videos, Putlocker just points you in the right direction. Just for information 'Game of Thrones' puts out the new shows on a Sunday and they are on Putlocker the very next day. If someone like HBO and the #1 show in the world right now does nothing to stop this then how much do you think they really care? Seems like there are more here that have a problem than those that own the shows. Right now Independence Day 2 was just taken down. The copy was a lousy off center cam recording. I think it was taken down because there is a better version, a CD perhaps. I'll be checking here soon even though the reviewers don't like it ;)

I will look mandatory. But I think the last movies lost the true spirit of Star Trek .. United star fleet and research the Universe. Last films are more like dumb Hollywood action movie.I understand that this is driven by the thirst for cash success but I do not like it.

If you do choose to stream and/or download from any site like the ones mentioned above, ensure you have a bullet proof anti-malware solution in place. Many of these sites are about as toxic as a deck drain at the CDC. We actually have a few we use on a dedicated network segment and virtual instances to test defense mechanisms.

When, for whatever reason, the main connection for a movie doesn't work they have alternate sites that host the movies. Those are the ones to watch out for. Usually you get the "YOUR COMPUTER IS INFESTED WITH A VIRUS" message and they will want you to call a number, usually starting with a "+". It won't let you exit or close the page. I go for the hard shut-down by pressing the on/off button and going for a cold boot. Then I'll run my anti-virus, malware and general tune-up programs. I go through my program files looking for "weirdness" and delete.

Maybe I've just been lucky, I don't know. The worst place I ever visited was a Malaysian Bicycle manufacturer. It started with a 'trickle' of 'dick bigger' advertisements then one day full blown email takeover to porn sites. Had to F-disc that one. That was 3 years ago and it's the only time that's happened :p Come to think of it I didn't F-disc, I bought a new SSD :)

The studios care immensely, as they lose billions of dollars each year to these criminals. The challenge is that the streaming providers are not unlike cockroaches. Kill one, and two more pop up.

This is important because entertainment (film, TV, video games, music) is the second largest US export industry, trailing only aerospace products.

Cumberbatch is a great actor, but filling the role of someone named Khan Noonien Singh? Sebastion Christopher Huntley would have seemed more appropriate. Here, here... quite.

And I sure am glad that Bones came up with an immortality elixir in "Into Darkness." It compensates for that unknown problem with transporter pattern buffers not being able to fix physical damage to or medical disorders with characters (red shirts would love that).

Yeah, I know its' science fiction. Just saying...

Armed with my Linux Debian visited russian sites. After the tenth attempt (9 times the movie started and stopped after 3 rd minute and wanted to pay by SMS) found a site where to look. I fell asleep after landing on the Enterprise on the planet .. I will not watch more .The nothing to do with true Star Trek Gene Roddenberry.

I finally finished watching this on Putlocker. It's a Russian made cam copy that's choppy, out of sync, has missing parts(I'm guessing they had to hide the camera). They keep running a banner advertising a casino....yeah, right...a Russian Internet casino...I don't think so...

I have not noticed a lack of synchronization because they are filmed screen, and there flowed russian dubbing completely sync :) Naturally, so much people so much opinions. I like the old Star Trek with a lot of sense, the study of the universe, the study of various psychological situations and problems of flights into space.
I only saw action and I did not like. Many effects and less sense. What appeals to mass spectator. And I'm far from a mass spectator.Еven annoy me it sound engine in airless space :)

From whom to hide it? Several times I heard the vibration of the phone because it had not been turned off, but I have not seen the film vholi I fell asleep around 15 th minute if I remember well :)
P.S.In These latest movies Star Trek actors bear the same names, and if they changed their souls :) I've seen all the Star Trek series, even cartoon, all seasons maybe 5-6 times, Star Trek Voyager is my favorite Star Trek :)Then Star Trek original series, then Star Trek the next generation. Star Trek deep space 9 and Star Trek Enterprise do not like. But I have seen them but only 1 time :)
Captains - Kathryn Janeway, Jim Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard. This Cisco and Ensign is not fit. And the captain of the Star Trek Enterprise've even forgotten his name.
P.P.S. My personal opinion - let Star Trek die. He died anyway with Gene Roddenbery. To invent completely new characters and new movies.Vulcan is dead, at what an idiot he thought such nonsense?I almost liked "Prometheus" leaving aside the impersonal voice acting. "Interstellar" also was not bad. There was an incredibly stupid movie about the moon. There lived only one man and occasional dying and cloning. The moon will be populated and will be the gateway to space.Тhe Moon. Not Mars.

Who do they hide the cameras from? The theatre usher, of course. Yes, it's stolen and even in Russia they do try to stop the legions of those that do this sort of thing but to use a Star Trek phrase resistance is futile. The thing about being a pirate is easy money...well...sort of. The movie pirates don't get paid for what they do. You can figure out on your own the multitude of reason a downloader might do this, it's open to debate. I do benefit from their efforts though, I admit to that but my not watching a movie isn't going to change a thing, there are millions who do the same and as far as I'm concerned the movies are a blue eyed blond that wants to take me home with her....

Of course, piracy is a bad thing but I doubt they are hiding especially for American film:) Until 1-2-3 months there will be a pirated copy of very good quality to watch online as all the movies. You do not think Star Trek all seasons, all movies I watched it in English? I use google translator, and how one translates only God knows :)
P.S.Even to stop piracy do not think you will win a lot of money? At an average salary of $ 500 here by month in Russia even less who will give them to watch a movie?
P.P.S. Furthermore, can you imagine how I would feel like to give money to watch a movie and fall asleep 15 th minute in movie theater? Even can expel me for snoring :)

...damn, $500 a month. I'm on SSI which is a Government program for the disabled and make $233 more than that which for the US is poor, very poor. I do get my medications free and in my case that is worth more than what I'm being paid from Social Security. I don't really complain though...well, that's until the end of the month right before payday when I'm broke ;)

The comparison is not very accurate because the prices of most things are not like in the US. However you answer the question why the US today is not populated as 400 years ago only with the Indians :) People have left their homelands in search of a better life :) Indeed us 45 years of communism affected us very badly. West Germany gave East Germany hundreds of billions and still not equal.То us only empty promises and hardly any serious investments.
