It's officially "mud season" up our way, so to pass the time while waiting to be able to launch again I set my mind to writing a little poem to commemorate the loss of an old friend last year. I call it...

Ode To A Sacrificial Weather Rocket

I launched my Alpha
On an A8-3,
And watched as it landed
In a roadside tree.

Rest in peace, little Alpha III

So, has anyone else ever waxed poetical about their rockets?

Here I sit all broken hearted
My rocket I launched
Then it lawn darted
The pieces away I threw
My biggest regret
Is my smashed Alimeter 2

:D

I launched a rocket in the sky
Pushed the button, let it fly
No parachute and I know why
I forgot wadding.

I glued the fins onto the tube
Used Elmer's glue, I ain't a rube
A 3FNC just like a noob
But: where to put the launch lug?

There once was a guy with a rocket,
Who launched it out of his pocket.
His wife got real scrappy
Cause he torched Mr. Happy,
And the divorce is now on the docket.

okay, I'll bite.

There once was a rocket at Bong
The motor three sizes too long
Willing and able
But no where near stable
We looked for the pieces 'til dawn...

I'll try

I launched my rocket into the air,
High it went into the clear,
I heard a pop, out the chute came,
It landed nearby, on top of the drain.

This took five minutes because of revisions.

I shot a rocket into the air,
and it made me s--- my under ware.
It looped over and chased me down,
Until my trousers were completely brown.
It curved around and it was hot,
For all the cars in the parking lot.
It binged and it banged as it took out the windows,
Then headed towards a rocket vendor.
The trailer was big, doors open wide,
How could there be any luck on my side.
Rockets a plenty, motors galore,
That rocket dove in like a Siberian boar.
The display was awesome and the damage was done,
I had ruined the day for everyone.
As I drove off the field I had hoped in vain,
That nobody there would remember my name.

Thank goodness this is not a true story.

That is funny!

I once had a daughter
who said that I oughta
build her a new rocket with bling.
So I took a Big Bertha
(whatever it's wortha)
and made of it quite a great thing.

I painted it purple and lavender pink
(and probably others, now that I think).
Encrusted with sparkling fake diamonds and stones,
that rocket would rival some medieval thrones.
But when we tried launching, to volleys of laughter,
our nice shiny rocket went straight to hereafter.
In all of my haste I'd forgotten one thing -

Add lots of noseweight to rockets with bling!

This is not a poem, but close. I rewrote an old Guess Who song for our club. Our fearless leader calls in our NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) for our club launch and I was juu\st inspired to write this one day.

Sung to the melody of No Time by the Guess Who

NOTAM called in for you
On our way to launching things
NOTAM good for you
I found myself some wings
NOTAM called in for you.
Distant muddy roads are calling me
NOTAM called in for you.

NOTAM for a winter launch
NOTAM for the money you spend
Seasons change and so we fly
You need not wonder why
You need not wonder why
There’s a NOTAM called in for you
NOTAM called in for you.

NOTAM called in for you
On my way to launching things
NOTAM called in for you
I found myself some wings
NOTAM called in for you
Distant launch fields are calling me
NOTAM called in for you.

NOTAM for a gentle wind
NOTAM for a McFly and
NOTAM for AP motors
NOTAM for the high soar
NOTAM for the high soar
There’s NOTAM called in for you
NOTAM called in for you.

NOTAM for a winter launch
NOTAM for the TORC bunch
Seasons change and so we fly
You need not wonder why
You need not wonder why
There’s NOTAM called in for you
NOTAM called in for you.

NOTAM, NOTAM, NOTAM, NOTAM
NOTAM, NOTAM, NOTAM, NOTAM

I got, got, got, got NOTAM
I got, got, got, got NOTAM
I got, got, got, got NOTAM
NO... NO...NO...NO...NO... NO...NO...TAM
NO... NO...NO...NO...NO... NO...NO...TAM
I got, got, got, got NOTAM
NO... NO...NO...NO...NO...
NO... NO...NO...NO...NO... NO... NO...NO...NO...NO... NO...TAM
I got NOTAM, got NOTAM, got NOTAM, got NOTAM, got NOTAM,
Got NOTAM, got NOTAM

Too windy they say
Many rockets float away
Scrub the launch? No way!

Ode to propellant

A.P.C.P.
How I love to burn ye.
Instant thrust and high G,
though you're kinda pricey.

And, black powder,
let us give you your due.
The other stuff is louder,
but I can still afford you.

There once was a flyer named Malcolm,
Who prepped all his chutes without talcum.
Though technique he lacked,
All his rockets came back -
as backup he used his pet falcoln.

Then one day, while flying at home,
he decided to launch a big cone.
It was massive and gray,
and flew on a "J",
but the falcoln said "You're on your own!"

Psychedelic rockets, in the air.
Psychedelic rockets, do not fear.
Psychedelic rockets, let my mind bend.
Psychedelic rockets, Ill take a +10.

Cheers to Zeus-cat for this semi-original song!

Crayon Bank Rocket

When other folks see you, upon the shelf sitting,
They think, "There's a bank for the children." Quite fitting.
When I saw you there, I just wondered, "Oh my!
What would it take to make that sucker FLY??"

So I bought one in yellow, and then one in blue.
(In case I might someday find time to build two.)
I made all the innards with plywood from Michael's,
and other odd things that one usually recycles.

It's coming together, the glue is all dry.
And soon will be time for this Crayon to fly.

The Odd Rocketeer

He flies odd rockets. Why? Who knows.
Years of wearing ill fitting clothes?
Something odd went up his nose?
I dunno, but there one goes!

"That's not a rocket! It can't be, man.
That's just an empty Pringles can!
And what's that thing he's checking in?
A flying muskrat with Lexan fins??"

It's fun and it's funny when rockets are strange.
No 3 fins and nosecones his side of the range!
The RSO signs with a grin and a nod -
Some folks, like their rockets, are just a bit ... odd.

On the edge of a field, all by itself, is a huge and gnarled old tree.
It fills me with fear and foreboding so deep, for it eats all my rockets you see.
First an alpha when I was a lad, then a mosquito, that wasn’t so bad.
A Red Max and Ho Jo, more over the years. The up brings me smiles, the down brings me tears.
I Love flying rockets, they fill me with glee. I’d like it much more, if not for that tree.
No matter my skill, No matter my plight. I just can’t seem to recover a flight.
So now there’s a new build, it’s big and it shines, it fills all my friends with awe.
I’m off to fly it, no doubt and no fear because this time I’m bringing a saw.

That's pretty funny Troy!
