I wanted to Beat Gary to the punch...

Red Glare will likely be late October (I'm hoping for 22-24) at Higgs Farm in Price MD.

If you are within driving range and have never been there, you should go!

This event is supporting the Susan Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.

One of the showcase events will be a Pink M Motor (CTI M1675) Drag race. My entry is a 6" Dark Star Ultimate that will be finished in Auto Air "Porn Star Pink" Named either "Real Men Fly Pink" or "Flight for The Cure".

What else will be there (other than Gary's Albatross on an O)?

As of last nights MDRA meeting, there are no offical dates as yet. Not a major surprise as the farm is still active. Tommy will let the BOD know of field availability just as soon as he can. We're very fortunate to have land owners as accommodating as the Higgs family. For dates and the offical word on the event lineup, keep checking the MDRA website: https://www.mdrocketry.org/ . Information will continue to be updated as the BOD approves activities. For all those planning special projects, be sure to register them on the website. There are some seriously cool projects allready lined up. This is going to be an AWSOME launch! As a side note MDRA is still launching at the Central Sod Farm. A great site and a great group of people. Come on out.

My guesstimate will be: Oct 22-24. It always seems to fall the same weekend as another event that I attend yearly.
If it lands in early November, then I might be able to attend.

Planning to fly my L2 cert attempt there. See build thread in the HPR forum.

Is advance notice required to make a (NAR) cert flight there? Will anyone have a copy of the written exam?

I'll definitely be there. I've got three projects planned.

First an foremost is my L3 project. My Ultimate Wildman on an N10,000. This is my main focus for the weekend.

Second, I'll be participating in the Pink K drag race. I'll be using my G3 for that.

Lastly, I should be flying my Extreme Darkstar on a Cesaroni L1720 White Thunder. That one should be pretty sweet!

Definitely looking forward to it!

I would send an email to the BOD. The email address is on the MDRA website.

Man, oh man, I bet Gary's fumeing! Al, you're just not nice :bangpan:
anyhow, I'll have some Wildman rockets on something big if the winds aren't too bad.....

should be good

If you check the website here; https://www.mdrocketry.org/membership/certification.html , there is a list of the club Cert. sponsors. There will be a large number of NAR certifed flyers on hand to sponsor and Cert the flight but you should contact one of the NAR members on this link to arrange the written.

I'm on pins and needles waiting for the date, I've got plane tickets to buy and rockets to ship! AirTran has a perfect Friday/Sunday nonstop from Indy to BWI and back, so I can be there all day for three days. (Anybody else in Indiana, you have no excuse now!)

I'm hoping to have my Extreme DarkStar and maybe a 6" something else if I get it together in time.

We will be flying this at least once over the weekend along with our American Solar Clipper

It looks like Ben (head of Tripoli research) and Elaine Russell will be running their propellant class on Friday the 22nd. Contact him at [email protected] if you're interested in attending.

Ben has been asked to give a "propellant making overview" talk during the Friday night "tech sessions." I've been asked to give a "getting started in electronic recovery" talk as well. More details later...

In keeping with the theme of this fall's Red Glare, will this do ??

PE 4" Fat Boy (sneakers optional)

To all MDRA members; Go to the club home page and vote on a logo for the offical RG9 T shirt. There are 3 designs to choose from. Shirts will be available Black, Pink or White. Takes a real man to wear pink. :p

Thanks for the link!

I met up with Dan Michael at the METRA launch today, and made arrangements for the cert flight at Red Glare. Took (and passed!) the L2 written today, so that part of the process is done. Made campground reservations for that weekend, as well.

Now I just have to get the chutes and recovery harnesses in the rocket, and she'll be ready to fly! Maybe put together a pink rocket for the event as well...

See everyone in October!

Congrats on passing the written. What rocket are you making the Cert flight with?

Will be flying a scratchbuilt tubefin of my own design. I have a build thread over in the HPR forum:

https://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?t=14088

The rocket is pretty much done at this point, except for the final finishing/decals and installation of the recovery system. Will be ordering the chutes and harnesses in the next couple weeks, aiming for ground ejection tests and a test flight on a big "I" motor at the METRA launch on 10/2. Assuming everything goes well, will fly the cert flight on a J350 at Red Glare later that month.

I realy like the Altimeter sled design you came up with. Have you had any issues with the copper pealing from the heat while soldering?

No problems with the copper peeling. I use a temperature-controlled soldering iron and 63/37 solder. I build electronic stuff for a living, so soldering on PC boards is second nature to me. Not at all hard to do with a bit of care.

Like the rocket Bob. Looking forward to seeing it fly.

Nice sled....perfect when you have 1GHZ altimeter elex...

Actually my only concern would ber shielding if you ever decided to mount telemetry in there.

Looking forward to it. Bazinet and I are planning to fly the Little John on another P motor. Blue propellant this time - P10,000.

Hey, just a heads up.... today is the last day that you can pre-order a shirt for Red Glare. Not sure why there is a need to pre-order but I think it has something to do with the fact that they are doing a limited number in various colors (white, black, and pink) and preordering helps keep the cost more reasonable. Supplies at the field will be limited. You don't want to get there and try to buy a shirt only to find the sizes available wouldn't fit your dachshund.

So... highly recommended... PreOrdering is the word of the day.

Well I registered, got the stickers and bracelets for the girls.
T-Shirts we'll try our luck at field since it's hard to judge sizes for the twins.
It's my wife's birthday weekend so we will only be flying Friday, but if we prep right we should get plenty of flights in...

CYA guys there!

Tell the girls that Buttercup needs to be decorated again. She is sporting a fresh paint job and needs some stickers.

Dave, you'll be king of the launch with rockin' Hannah Montana and Jonas Bros stickers all over your rocket :D
