Hey Marc,
Similar problems here in Oklahoma. I’ve been kicking around the idea of an Airbrush or HVLP set up. Without starting a fight do you have an opinion or suggestion on one or the other (or both)?
I bought a Master SB88 Pro Set, Dual-Action Side Feed airbrush kit about 1.5 years ago. It comes with .3mm, .5mm, & .8mm tips & needles. It wasn't very expensive and so far I like it. Does what I need to do with an airbrush.

Looks like a good choice for a flexible brush good for rocketry!
Any trouble with viscosity of paint and the side feed?
I like the side feed as it doesn't block my view when doing details. And so far all I've used is Creatix paints with the 5mm tip. Viscosity is always iffy but I'm learning each time I use it. I've also been using denatured alcohol in a Nalgene bottle to keep it clean.
I also bought one of these and use it to shoot the prime coat with Zinsser B-I-N. Considering how cheap this spray gun is it really does a nice job.

Yeah. I use the K3 gun for primer/sealer and full rocket color coats. For $15 or whatever it does a great job. I now prefer my nicer Vaper branded gun for large area color coats, but a HF spray gun that is effectively disposable if something goes wrong is hard to beat.

From here, that looks like galvanic corrosion. Humidity, a temperature difference, aluminum body with an steel needle.
But, If you leave them perfectly clean, they can both corrode. Coating them with a light oil and cleaning Before you paint is better.
