The issue with any AIM-9 is the forward fins. Missiles are meant to be not stabile so they can be as maneuverable as possible. And in this case, the forward fins are meant to guide & spin & pivot this thing around.. Making something like this to fly as we do has serious challenges due to the large (and very far forward) forward fins.
 
The good news is that the AIM-9X has much smaller canard fins than most previous versions of the Sidewinder. The bad news is that the aft fins on the X are smaller as well.

No kits of the X that I have ever heard of at any size.

Some folks have found that missiles like this can be flown if the canard fins are mounted on pivots so that they are free to trail and produce no unwanted forces.
