Lucas: I totally agree with you and that this competition could grow so much if more people knew about it. Most people within the rocketry community don't even know about it. That has changed at the launches I go to but around the country, more people should know, it will only make things more fun!!!
Anyway, from what I have heard from my team, UTA (University of Texas at Arlington) The University of Cincinnati won the Rover event, and a local high school team won the Target Altitude event, and there was no winner for the Lander event.
The UTA team did very well for what they had. It was their first year without me (the old president and founder). Only two people on the team even knew about the hobby at this time last year. Most of them never built a rocket, and the ones that have never flew anything larger than a Estes B or C.
They had A LOT to learn with in a year and they decided to keep the UTA tradition and go for all the events offered at the competition. Having all this extra work took a toll on them and if given more time they could have won all the events! They had to test launch the altitude rocket and lander rocket at the competition, and test the lander and rover for the first time! A few little mistakes here and there caused some problems which killed their chances for winning, but they did amazing for what they had to do!
Congrats to all the winners, and thanks to Ivan and all the competition helpers! From what I hear it was another amazing weekend and I wish I could have come this year to watch!
