My trip to Thuderstruck was ruined by new orders which put me in Richmond on Saturday the 31st.
Will there by any chance be somebody at your launch on Friday so I can attempt a NAR L1?

If I leave here tomorrow I can be at Battle Park early Friday & still make it to Richmond with time to spare...

Normally there are a number of NAR certified folks at the launch - let them know at check-in that you want to certify.

Weather permitting, I will be there on Sat 3/31.

Cheers!

OK, I think I'll give it a whirl then! Thanx!

Unfortunately, Saturday I will be in the shop assembling a turbine, regardless of the weather.

Man, the weather is really keeping us guessing, isn't it? If it looks like it's going to be rainy both days, I'll probably sit this one out. Right now, it's just scattered showers on Saturday. That ain't enough to keep me away! I've got an M2250 all loaded up for my Ultimate Wildman. That should give the kids a pretty good show! :)

Wow! I hope I get to see that! How high will the Ultimate Wildman fly on the M2250?

I'm bringing back my Der Red Endeavour (J500G or J460T) plus some of my go-to rockets. I hope to see you at the launch!

There will definately be some NAR L3 folks there on Friday that can sign off your L1 for you. I would recommend you bring the forms/paperwork along and have most of it filled out before hand. I'm not sure exactly what NAR needs, but it would be best if you made sure you had forms with you, I don't know if they have any blanks on hand.

The launch opens at 10:00 AM.

BTW Richmond is just under 2 hours drive.

Last time it flew on that motor, it did about 6,600'. Definitely a cool motor. Huge white flame, and REALLY loud!

Love the Der Red Endeavor! I went with the Der Red Magg, myself. :)

If it's on Saturday or Sunday, I'm definitely in! It was the Minie Magg Drag Race in December that convinced me to buy one. :)

I hope the wind forecast dies down. Rowan's gonna cr@p when he sees yer Magg, Nick!

Weather forecast doesn't look too bad on Saturday, but it certainly could be better.
Friday looks great! I've got the battery charged in the RC unit and the chute fits easily. Some ground testing early Friday and a test flight or two! Should be great!

Big box of motors arrived Tuesday, but not entered into inventory yet. I am completely restocked in AT and CTI 29mm and 38mm, and most of what I usually have in 54mm. If you want to place a pre-launch order on a motor shown out of stock, just ask and I will enter it into stock. See y'all Saturday and Sunday.

What a great weekend. I got my L2 on Sunday, I think there were 6 L2s during the weekend. I flew my binder design excel on a j381.

I heard someone's camera clicking away when my L2 flight took off, if you have the pictures and are willing to share could you PM me?

Are you the guy Doug and I were talking to while trying to get his L2 bird up? I think his was the next-to-last launch of the day Saturday - about 5:15.

Great weekend all. I'll post videos soon. Max, can you post your level two flight?

This weekend was a huge jump for many, including myself. I gained level 2 and succesfully executed three dual deployment flights. (including a PML Ariel to 4060 feet) This was my first try with electronics/ dual deploy. I also used my first Cesaroni, which was quite a treat.

Red Glare is coming and I have a K513FJ ready for a LOC Magnum.....It should be fun to use this newly acquired lvl 2 !

And your motor vendor will Love you even more!

Do you have Kevin Dunn on speed dial?:D

Please don't get me wrong, but I was asked before why I felt the Battle of the Rockets was lacking. Being involved with BotR twice, I realize how well the competition is run and how beneficial it can be to the students, but this thread and the newspaper article both show that more needs to be done to promote it. The thread hasn't a single post regarding the competition (aside from mine asking about the results - to which no one has posted) and the newspaper article seems that it couldn't care less about it too.

NASA USLI has 42 teams this year, a new record for them. TARC always has hundreds competing and 100 in the full competition. I mean this in no was as offensive, but for a competition of this level (national and higher education), more needs to be done to BotR to show that it too can stand on the same level as the other competitions. Sure its run by a small club and may not have the financial support, but I feel that more emphasis needs to be done to involve more students and more sponsors to gain support. If nothing else, at least put forth the effort to show that you care about the competition by posting updates throughout and at the very least, the results. Give credit to the students who did well and thank those who participated, not only the students, but the club members as well.

My :2:......

Did anyone happen to get any video of my K740 cato? Even cell phone video would suffice. :)

Any details of the actual competition?

Lucas: I totally agree with you and that this competition could grow so much if more people knew about it. Most people within the rocketry community don't even know about it. That has changed at the launches I go to but around the country, more people should know, it will only make things more fun!!!

Anyway, from what I have heard from my team, UTA (University of Texas at Arlington) The University of Cincinnati won the Rover event, and a local high school team won the Target Altitude event, and there was no winner for the Lander event.

The UTA team did very well for what they had. It was their first year without me (the old president and founder). Only two people on the team even knew about the hobby at this time last year. Most of them never built a rocket, and the ones that have never flew anything larger than a Estes B or C.

They had A LOT to learn with in a year and they decided to keep the UTA tradition and go for all the events offered at the competition. Having all this extra work took a toll on them and if given more time they could have won all the events! They had to test launch the altitude rocket and lander rocket at the competition, and test the lander and rover for the first time! A few little mistakes here and there caused some problems which killed their chances for winning, but they did amazing for what they had to do!

Congrats to all the winners, and thanks to Ivan and all the competition helpers! From what I hear it was another amazing weekend and I wish I could have come this year to watch!

The maiden flight and successful L2 Cert of "All Screwed Up," my scratch-built glueless design using fins and motor mount from Hangar11. Actually, it's not quite glueless--I used a little wood glue on the avbay bulkheads and altimeter sled. Otherwise, the rocket is bolted together and can be disassembled for repair or cannibalism. This flight was on a J285 with dual deployment courtesy of an Adept22 altimeter.

Please let the UTA team know I congratulate them on their hard work and effort. I was always surprised to see UTA going for all of the events - you guys are dedicated.

I feel like the competition could be easily broadened by simply advertising. You wont need billboards or radio ads to do so, but it could be as simple as posting more info more often on the forums. Try sending emails and letters to known engineering school and university faculty members and presidents promoting the hobby and the competition. Put an ad in Sport Rocketry magazine. There are many ways to get the word out.

Jason, as always, nice talking to you. Congrats also on your L3 (not sure if you had that last year?).
