started putting decals on the Estes Mercury Redstone for my son... (He's 9, so leaves the delicate stuff to me.)

That's going to be one good looking rocket! I might have to find or create a high power version once I get through some of my build pile.

Coors is light. Coors Light is redundant. Anything with less body and flavor than Sam Adams, at a minimum, is like making love in a canoe: f-----ng close to water.

And, for some reason, Coors still in business. "Beer for people who really like to urinate"

About the elliptical rocket ...
...
I would never have attempted it without 3D printing for the nose "cone". And laser cut rubs made the thing a huge amount easier. If there's a better construction method than ribs, stringers, and paper I'd love to hear about it. ...

I spent an afternoon with F360 and the Shapeoko trying to match the profile of one of these cans. I eventually cut a pair of centering rings with holes cut for two 24mm motor tubes (which rings are lost somewhere in a pile of parts under my bench).

its not quite an ellipse, and the plastic is flexible enough that it is impossible to get a caliper measurement without deforming it. I ended up taking pictures of the open end of a cut tube with a long lens, and tracing the profile with the bezier pen in Illustrator. The tube under the label has horizontal depressions formed in to stiffen it, so it will need to wrapped in a skin. I modeled a nosecone and -- if I ever get back to the project -- will mill it out of balsa.

I am well past the point of diminishing returns on this idea. The chips were really awful. Its close, but I think I'd almost rather drink a Coors than eat another one of these wafers of sadness.

Worked on finishing my 3D printed scratch build. I am using 4 screws on each side of the coupler to hold the airframe together. The design is that the coupler can either be a baffle or converted to a dual deployment test bed. The two holes below the screws are threaded inserts for my keychain camera mount, more pictures will be posted once I do the final assembly tomorrow. 20190228_004619.jpeg20190228_004556.jpeg20190228_004639.jpeg

That is looking good.

Carbon overlaid mailer tube? That is a beefy coupler

Ordered almost a K worth of motors from Chris S including a bunch of 24mm Gs for the School'd Rocket

I'll miss our last launch at the winter field, so not sure when the next chance to light those will be.

I ordered the JL Chute Release along with the Accessories Kit and a Protector from Jolly Logic
It sure looks like a good investment to me! Cant wait to get it!

Actual rocket-wise, my Sunday rocket build time got cut short.

Monday I got the last "fill coats" of primer on the NCone. It's ready for final pre-paint sanding and final primer coat.
Tuesday I sanded most of the primary layers of "fill coats" sanded, need to detail-sand the leading and trailing fin root fillets and apply the final "fill coat" of primer....and sand a little more....

Today I also looked for a small drogue/pilot chute, along with a chute protector blanket....didn't have any luck finding the chute.....
Wanted to order everything together, couldn't find a site that had it all....

I banged my head against the wall trying to figure out how,....no matter how many times I tried to explain...and how many pictures I tried to post......I'M NOT ASKING HOW TO BUILD FIN FILLETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm just asking for TIPS in BLENDING the fin to body root on the LEADING AND TRAILING EDGES of the fin....TO MAKE IT EASIER.
GEEE!!!
I Didn't think that that was too complicated of a question......BUT GEESE>>>>>>!!!!....??????

Masked, custom mixed some metallic paint, slapped on the colors and tints, pulled the mask and the base paint design is done. Cut vinyl, some airbrushing and clear coat Left to do.nocking the rust off my rocket building skills for sure. Pretty happy with it so far.

Finally finished the BT70 upscale Goblin I started when Semroc went out of business. The package from Stickershock is postmarked August of 2014. 4 1/2 years to build a simple 4fins and a nose cone....
Still have 2 more sets of stickers in that pack.....

Dipped some BKNO3-V starters, to be used tomorrow. Very nice; slightly flexible rather than brittle. These will be my go-to motor starters from now on.

Best -- Terry

Got around to doing more work on my Estes Star Orbiter.
Epoxied in Tee-nut (Aft rail button), fins, and aft centering ring with BSI 30 minute.
Used JB Weld on the Aerotech 29mm Motor Retainer.
