Launched my MadCow Patriot on an Estes G80-7. Motor is marginal, delay a bit long but not the source of the uh-oh. I added a little to the ejection charge, apparently a little too much. There was a flash of light and a bang (much like the fireworks that launch an M-80). Then the upper and lower halves continued to separate....
The nose had enough momentum to yank to upper centering ring out, pulling the rail button threw the body tube. Should have realized that the ejection charge on the motor was designed to work on the MDRM, which is about the same volume......

No other damage. A little glue and it'll be good as new.

In other news, my brand new (Christmas '17) never used Altimeter Two needs a new battery from sitting unused since I got it. Them's the breaks when ya only get to fly once a year or so.....

Fine. Really straight to 880’ in an H160. The fin/wing s cation came down slower than the chute release bundle.

How did it do?

At the club LPR launch today, got 7 flights up, including the Sky Dart II and the Mini A Heli. The Skydart did ok. It weather-cocked a little so that it as almost inverted when it deployed, but the engine pod ejected and the glider righted itself and did a credible impression of gliding for a few seconds before touching down on the grass.

The Min A Heli went up arrow-straight, but the rotors did not deploy -- so it came down arrow straight.

The thread broke on impact, so I do not know if it was tangled somehow, or if it did not burn through when the ejection fired. The damage is repairable, so it will fly again (although it is going to be a pain trying to match that candy-cane stripe on the section of replaced airframe).

Joined Tripoli, went to TCR's June Swoosh Day 3 (of course I attended days 1 and 2 as well as the set-up and earlybird launch on Thursday as well), flew 15 flights between Thursday and Saturday LCO'd for about 4 hours over the last two days, and will do some more today. We now have enough members locally who are Tripoli to create a local prefecture (yay for EX). Bummer that our waiver has been reduced by 1000' due to a bureaucrat (we have has a 10K waiver for the last 4 years and suddenly they tell us we can only have a 9K after the new waiver has been in place 3-4 months).

Welcome to Tripoli! We’re glad to have you!

I’ve made a dent on unpacking enough stuff from the garage to expose the “Rocketeering Nook”...

A little closer every weekend... [emoji12]

Maidened my Wildman 2.6" Patriot on a G78 and had a solid second flight on the LOC IRIS on an H550. Weather was fantastic yesterday.

Went digging through the build pile, looking for a Pro series Nike Smoke. Came across a rocket kit that I won at LDRS, a 4" Der Red Max. I just needed something to keep my busy while Sharon started her 4" DX-3 from Mad Cow/Rocketry Warehouse kit. We both got the fincans done, minus the external fillets. Mine is a simple kit, three fins, three centering rings, a MMT, slotted body tube and a polycarbonate N/C. I'm putting an avbay in the N/C, just don't like to mess with motor deploy delays.

Flew rockets for the first time this year (yesterday)!! :)

Also edited and uploaded this video of the launch event to YouTube:

Got my order from Buyrocketmotors. Great service ridiculously fast shipping.

Added two more kits to the build pile today. A Aerotech Astrobee D and Madcow 2.2" Frenzy both arrived today! I should have a few new builds ready for the TRC Sodblaster launch Labor Day Weekend!

Spent today cleaning off the work bench. Getting ready to start my Level 2 build, should be fun!

Glued rail guide on a couple of rockets. Cut some centering rings. Worked a little bit on this design. Want it to be a park flier. Not sure yet if it will be a 3 X 18 mm cluster, or a single 24 mm motor.

Printed up this bad boy, the37247480_10156603350213200_4269084354195488768_n.jpg 37316360_10156603348688200_4015120296578121728_n.jpg bottom section of a custom 3D printed base station for my T3 GPS. Will hold dual batteries (vented as well so they don't heat up), a charger with an external plug to charge the transmitter module and my phone will fit neatly in the cover I printed for the top. 3 Way switch on the side will power the unit or charge it when connected to USB. 1/2 wave antenna out the top. Came out pretty clean!

I needed to get on the CNC to do some non-rocket stuff. The piece of aluminum stock from which I cut the retainer for my L2 rocket (I AM going to fly it this season) was still on the wasteboard. I decided to mill two more retainers, so that I wouldn't have to find a place to store the scrap piece. That's another retainer for the Moonbat, and one for the in-progress upscale Banshee; the Plan B rocket for the L2 attempt. Now with "Twist-Lok (tm)"

Tacked fins on on my LOC parkflyer BBX, and started working on my 5.5" LOC Sandhawk today. Got the upper airframe fiberglassed, and will do the lower section in the coming days. IMG_7647.jpg IMG_7651.jpg

Made the thrust ring for my 6" L3 custom effort.

Here is the ring removed from the stock and awaiting cleanup (remove hold down tabs and hit edges with emery cloth so I don't get cut).
First aluminum I've cut using my Shapeoko 3. Generally happy with the process and results.

(Forgot this thread is here so I should have posted last week.)

Completed the build of an Apogee Slo Mo, in a hotel room with just wood glue, sand paper, wood filler, a bit of aluminum angle, and my pocket knife.
