I'm guessing that they broke the drive shaft out in the boonies and had no access to parts or metal stock. Looks like they had plenty of tools though. Maximum utilization of available resources.

Look at all that charring and corrosion. If it's staged it's a heck of a job. I too cringed, initially just at all the corrosion and then I noticed the glow.In cringing looking at that sullen glow. OMG. I hope that picture is staged and not from the real world.
