As someone who works for a company making high powered DC EV car chargers (50kW - 350kW) this scares the life out of me.

The care that needs to be taken to torque the bus bar connectors down is serious and this is on the lower spectrum of how stuff like that can go abjectly wrong in my experiences over the last year...
So, is what's going on here likely that too many amps are being pulled by that connection, orbis it a poor connection thus higher resistance this heat?

Heating is always Amps. Arcing is volts.

Poor connection means all the current is travelling across not enough contact and you get super heating...

I pulled up next to a McLarren the other day, in city traffic. A second look showed it was a brilliantly painted version of the McLarren on the side of a white toyaota van. The illusion was very well done. Now that's art!
