Anyone know if nearby fields are going to be flooded? I have 3 rockets set to deploy main chutes at ~3000 ft, so long walks and I would like to try to avoid mud if possible.

This reminds me. I need to buy some rubber boots.

The weather forecast for Friday is not looking that great. A likelihood of rain and wind. Saturday is looking pretty good.

I bought some boots after OS…
Saturday looks like good weather except for 7-14 mph peak winds.

...and I'm planning to do my L2 cert on apogee deploy with a 48" chute...
Fortunately, predicted altitude is less than 2K.

Rubber boots are good to keep in the rocket gear locker. Bought mine at Walmart for under $20 and have used them only once at Snow Ranch but was glad to have them when they were needed. If the Dairy Aire field is muddy like it was at October Skies, the boots will likely get stuck and be of little help. Folks were "walking" out of their shoes and boots in the muck. Knee deep.

I have two flights set to deploy mains at 2900-3100 ft with 50" chutes.

I plan to spend at least half the day walking. :)

We are going to have two raffles at Dairy Aire this year, the regular one that the club always does, and a second one as a fund raiser for Marian of StickerShock23, to help with the medical bills.

PM me if you got something to donate to the raffle. -RZ

The Marian raffle has been canceled. The donated items have been shipped back.

I have been going to TCC for many years now. Last October was the only time I have seen a flooded field near by. Dairy Aire has the best field conditions. But.. I will have boots just in case.

Based on the current weather forecast it looks like Friday will be a very poor day indeed with rain and thunderstorms predicted for the middle of the day.

I'd been planning to drive down early Friday morning, get some flying in, spend the night at the hotel, and fly some more before leaving Saturday evening. I'm now leaning toward to a Saturday-Sunday trip but have until tomorrow evening to cancel/change my reservations.

And I might end up doing some ground tests on the field.

Kit, I hope to meet you in person on Saturday. I hope to finally fly my dual deploy 5" Jart that you so kindly hooked me up with, on a K940. Should be interesting...

Saturday - Sunday is probably more reliable than Friday - Saturday (plus there's a night launch and free beer Saturday night), but I'm not seeing such a dire forecast for Friday. What weather service are you using?

I'll be in the area for all three days regardless, but wasn't planning on a huge amount of rocketry Friday. My wife wanted to do some lounging around the pool at the hotel. Thunderstorms do not bode well for rocketry nor pool lounging.

I sure hope the weather is nice. Forecasts have been fluctuating quite a bit. We may actually get rain locally in the Bay Area tomorrow.

Thanks, David.

The USAirnet service for Lemoore is predicting winds from 10-17 mph on Friday which is pretty much a standard prediction for the day following a rainstorm. Saturday is looking pretty nice with late morning winds of 6 mph and increasing to 10 mph as the day goes on.

I canceled my Friday night hotel reservation and plan to arrive on the field about 10 am Saturday morning and stay just the one day. I had had some pool lounging in mind as well but it just wasn't in the cards this time.

Hopefully the rain doesn't turn the fields to muck. That's a type of wading I'd rather avoid.

Tomorrow I will be ground testing, building some motors, and loading the car for the trip.

For all those reading along, I will be driving the silver Altima sedan and have my customary multi-color umbrella up so if you want to stop by and say hello, I'm the geezer in the orange construction vest (pockets!) and black 49'ers cap.

I'll be up heading up there for the first time tomorrow, and will be attempting my L2 at 9:00 on Saturday morning!

I'll be in a bright orange long sleeve sports shirt.

Hope to see some of you out there!

The TCC email list just got the notification that the launch is cancelled due to impassable roads. I guess there is time to paint now :-\

*sigh* I guess I'm more happy than sad (sadly), I still had a LOT left to do on both of my rockets to get them ready to fly tomorrow, so at least today won't be a mad-dash hoping I have enough time for the epoxy to fully-cure. Avionics bays and exterior fillets was most of what I had left, but I still hadn't set the MD motor retainer in one rocket because I'm right on the line on getting the drogue hardware to fit, and stuck in that "am I making a horrible mistake" state that keeps from making a 'permanent' decision like applying epoxy.

So I guess Maker Faire it is. :p Too bad it's all 3 days, I wasn't going to be able to go today anyhow because of work, seems like perhaps there would be a chance of things drying out today (maybe, I have no clue how long these fields need to dry), but the email said the ranch sent their crew home for the weekend. I guess there isn't a rain-date either, we don't generally need that in CA this time of the year!

On the flip-side however, at least we got a bit more desparately-needed rain, but why now!?! :bang:

Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrggggggghhhhhh!!!!!

Can we temorarily suspend the rules agains profanity? There are a few things I need to say.

Wow. I did a lot of work getting ready for this launch. I was REALLY looking forward to it. Spent a lot of money...

How can rains close the roads during a drought? I think this proves my theory that the drought will only be broken by rain coming on days I want to do something.

I'm going back to bed. I'm just going to lay there in the fetal position and sob.

Maybe if we schedule launches every weekend it will fix the drought problem!

I was looking forward to it as well. At least now I won't be rushing to get 3 rockets finished today. And my L1 is delayed... again

Cheers,
Kyle

Thanks for the update from the TCC email list. L2 will have wait until the fall.

Rocket Season is officially over in NorCal and Building Season is now in session.

The main disappointment to me was that I don't know when I'm going to get to launch the Warlock. I wasn't planning on attending any more HPR launches until October Skies. I also rushed a few things doing the finishing on that rocket, and I regret not having the time to do a few things better.

DA cancelled. This is disappointing.

There's always MudRock in June, and AeroHot in August.

For those that have never been to Black Rock... Do yourself a favor. Once you've been there, you'll understand.

Anyone crazy enough to drive down to Edwards for FAR? There is a launch on their calendar tomorrow. I took the weekend for flying, and intend on doing all I can to make that happen!

What do they do at a regular FAR launch? Their focus at FAR is experimental motors, I think. Are their regular launches like an ordinary club launch? I'm probably not up for a trip to Edwards, but I am curious what it's like.

Come join me next weekend in Reno!

Are you going to be flying with this club? https://renorocketry.com/

Where is the White Lake site? I don't see directions on their website.

EDIT: Found the location of White Lake on Google Maps. It's about 3.5 hours away, so probably over 4 with stops. Not terrible, but I'd probably need to spend a night in Reno. I'll look into it.

EDIT EDIT: Ugh... Just realized that's Memorial Day weekend. Traveling home to the Bay Area from the Tahoe Area will be awful.

Not a clue! I am leaning towards doing it, and will certainly report back.

Come visit me at the local middle school. There is a 400 x 600 foot field. Bring some B6-4s.
