Prep and painting on three projects - Crossfire, Argent and downscale Pegasus.

I got three 3' rods from Grainger for $12. I have one on the way home, so no shipping. Besides, I like to make things. When you throw in the vise it was obviously more expensive this way. However, now I have a bench vise, and if there is anything I like more than more rocket parts, it's more tools.

I totally agree with the "more tools", Grainger is a great source for 1010 rail too. McMaster-Carr will spoil you with their fast shipping though. Needed some SS U-bolts for the same project, a 54mm MD Blackhawk, ordered Tuesday, delivered Wednesday.

Good deal.. Granger has been a little better in pricing but does not have the smaller sizes like McMaster

Kenny

If McMaster-Carr doesn't have it, it probably doesn't exist.

OR.. I just haven't figured out the correct term to get a useful search result...

Got some Primer on my scratch built BT-60 D-Region Tomahawk Nose/AV Bay Section.
Also started cleaning up the Shed that I'm going to turn into my new Rocket workshop for the jobs that require "Adequate Ventilation".:)

Nice detail on that!

Thanks!:)

I sanded the shiny off the flat side and used Gorilla Brand Super Glue to affix them to the lightly sanded and lightly Primed FG Cloth.
They won't be going anywhere.
To apply them I used a Pick that I made, and simply stuck it into the central Facet on the faceted side of each one, then touched it to the edge of a drop of the CA, then positioned it and pressed down.
My spacing was slightly out of Sync. due to Daylight Saving Time Distortion Syndrome, but my hand was steady thanks to lesser Arthritis Symptoms and spending time outdoors. This nice +30 Degree weather is awesome!!!:)

- Scavenged some dense Styrofoam to carve a square nose for my square rocket.
- Cut an obelisk like nose cone out of it.
- Glued the motor mount for that 18mm rocket.

Today I finished gluing the fins to Baby Bertha, trying to figure out what color to paint her. Thinking of a lime green body with black fins.
We gathered up the fleet and made sure the controller batteries are good. Hopefully the weather will be good for a few launches tomorrow.

Dave, check out the new 3M 10X paper at Home Depot. It's really good. REALLY good.
Hey Kit- thanks! I splurged and got some nice stuff from Rockler, but dang! HD is on my flight path home from work. Will try some Saturday! (Nod to the Captain for his excellent backup opinion-kudos to you bro'!)

Sanding. I decided I do not like Rust-oleum 2X primer which acts to much like standard paint and will go back to using the filler primer which sands much easier for me.

Last night i went to the CaveDuck Cave and he updated the Eggfinder LCD firmware to 109d . Then we went upstairs to see his new toys. Then he updated my Eggtimers to 9v and terminal blocks.

On the way there I stopped by Exactimators and also got to talk some rockets .

Tonight i scrubbed the flux off the timers and beep tested one then pulled out the TRS and it connected to the LCD RX.. so very nice and got it to ahow up on Rocketry Locator to boot.

Finished mounting the alt bay in the Polecat Aero Goblin nose cone. Epoxy is cured, pass through holes are sealed with JB Weld High Temperature RTV, and three stainless #8 screws are drilled through the nose cone shoulder into the blocks glued to the centering ring. Of course their counter sank them so they're flush.

Next step on the Goblin is finish the fin fillets so I can paint airframe and nose cone together. I've learned that you don't paint fluoro pink parts separately as bad things tint-wise can and do happen.

@Fyrwrx: Dave, I think you're going to like that 3M 10X sand paper. Keep a small rag of terry cloth or shop towel material handy so you wipe the dust off the paper. It will clog eventually not anywhere near what we've become accustomed to over the years.

@KenRico You're pretty mobile for a guy who recently broke his leg. Glad to hear it.

- Glued the two last fins on my square rocket.
- Cut, folded, and glued the conic tip of the TLP FLAIL nosecone.
- Cut the cardboard forward fins of the TLP FLAIL.
- Reviewed my next material order.
- Looked for information on the NIKE SMOKE and HERCULES.

Launched at bong today. Got very wet feet. Convinced CZTeacherman that his Wildman sport really needed an H410 Vmax in it. Didn't lose any rockets.

Indeed... It was totally worth it!

I just ordered a bunch of reloads and a couple of bulk packs of BP motors from Hobylinc, starting to stock up for LDRS. I also ordered my first real HP rocket, a PML Hydra looks like a fun build. It'll be my fist fiberglass build too.
It looks like I'll have two birds to choose from for my L1 cert, the Hydra and my almost finished Loc Cyclotron. What do you guys think, PML o Loc?

Did the final touches on Redshift- the time is nigh for a launch... I also worked on the motor mount for my Madcow Frenzy. This was my first time using an Aeropack. I've been skeptical just because of the cost- I've used Estes retainers and a Slimline up to now, but I see why people like the Aeropacks so much. It's a very nice retainer. Everything fits very, very nicely, and it does look very professional. I got the aft CR on, the Aeropack on, and filleted the CRs. Still wanna do some reinforcement on the shock cord, but it's coming along nicely. I also put the 4th fin (that's the first top fin) on my Wildman Eagle claw sport. I also really like the looks of this kit. To be honest, I wish it had come as DD standard with a 38mm mmt, kinda more in line with the Jr. kits as opposed to the sport kits, but I suppose the tailcone makes it tricky to have anything larger than a 29. Regardless, It's a very nice kit from Wildman!

I put the final coats of primer on my daughter's 4" Warlock. I waited a couple hours and sanded it with 400 grit then sprayed on the first color coats. The nose cone is done. The booster will have to dry until next weekend before I apply the second color.

Finally got rolling on a new build. It's been a struggle for me to get back into building since my successful L-3 flight at Airfest last year. I'm flying mostly minimum diameter rockets now, with a bunch of altitude junkies at the new HPR launch site called "Eagle Eye". TRA/PHX has monthly launches with a 50,000 ft. waiver. So far no one has busted it. Last November, I was flying a Blackhawk 54 at ROCstock and had a faulty ematch at apogee cause my rocket to land pretty hard. The result of that flight got me the parts to build a new Blackhawk with the new thin wall tubing and light weight polycarbonate nosecone. Today I posted up my progress building an Eggfinder into that new N/C here:

https://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?123884-Eggfinder-in-the-new-polycarbonate-nosecone

I also ordered a new Dremel tool, the cordless 8220:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008DRY5AI/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

My old one is just worn out, and cord is always in the way when cutting out bulkplates and centering rings.

Last but not least, I sent an email to Cris for a new Eggfinder TX.

For those of you waiting for the build thread I promised, should be up sometime next week.

Worked on the Twin Crayon Bank rocket build today and caught up the build thread over in MPR, not a lot left to do except fillets (inner and outer), upper CR, parachute shelf/shock cord anchor, make parachute, make AV Bay sled and nose ballast, and some paint, then chase down some 38mm Gs and Hs for them.

Yesterday attended a launch put on by TORC703 and Randy from eRockets, hosting a local Cub Scout pack for their merit badge work. Scouts had a great time with several succesful flights each. Launched my Tube fin One on an E9-4, Hyperion clone on an E9-6 (5 second delay would have been ideal, but fell straight back before deployment) and my AVI Star Warrior clone on anD12-5. All recovered intact. No pictures of my birds, but several of some of the others.

What's the name of the yellow bird on the right (see images of post right above this one)?
