Estes K11 wac corporal
Found a sim file and printed a template but it looks small with a 1.47 inch root edge.
Trapezoid fin shape1/8 inch balsa
Do they need to be larger ?

Thank you all.

BTW - The WAC CORPORAL was YELLOW, NOT WHITE, as Estes depicts it.

It also flew using a TINY TIM Booster ( required ) . . . Not mentioned or included in Estes kit.

What do you mean 'it looks small?" Compared to what? Do they look like these fins?

More WAC CORPORAL data . . . NOTE that it has a slight BOAT-TAIL ( see pics ) . . .

ALSO, you have a PM

Hi,

Dimensions, along with ALL of the dimiension on the rocket, will depend on the Scale ( size ) of the rocket you want to build.

The 1.47" dimension MIGHT be correct, or not, depending on the Scale ( size ) of the model, as compared to the "real thing".

@supercomp I am guessing that you are looking at the same file I used to build my clone. Yes, 1.47" (1 7/16") works just fine. I built the kit when I was in high school, and my clone looks like what I remember. Not sure how "true to scale" it is, that was not my goal.

According the Peter Alway's "Rockets of the World", these are the fin dimensions.

Root : 23.4"
Tip : 14.4"
Span : 18.0"
Body Diameter : 12.0"

So, since the Estes version uses a BT-20 ( .736" ), the Scale Factor is .0613333 ( 16.304347 : 1 )

Thus, a Scale BT-20 WAC CORPORAL would have a Fin Root of 1.4352" ( 1.47" is pretty close - a 2.4% error ).

Super,

The white and black paint scheme is accurate as well. There were two WACs, A and B. The one at the Smithsonian Air and Space is a B and is black and white (and they do pretty good research and restoration there). Search "Air and Space WAC" and you'll get a picture.
