Stupid is as stupid does...

Aught to be a law that it has to be on the drivers side of the vehicle... Bet there's a lot more incidents of fender benders, hitting the gas pumps, and driving off w/ the hose still in the filler due to it being on the wrong side of the car....

Volkwagen does them on the passenger side. Which is opposite of how my old Ford was. Took me a few times to really remember (and even still I occasionally forget.) But it only takes me one try to switch sides if I do...

Many cars have a little triangle pointer next to the gas pump icon on the fuel gauge, and the triangle points to the side where the filler hatch is located. Unfortunately, even if this ding-dong knew about the little triangle, it would not help her...

Yes, any car I've ever driven in the last 20 years has the gas-cap-side indicator. And true, it probably wouldn't have helped the person in the vid. But as my wife pointed out: we should be nice. Not everyone has good spatial perception.

The rationale I was given (in the owner's manual for my VW IIRC - too lazy to go out and grab it from the glove-box to check right now) for a passenger-side gas cap was that it was safer for emergency road-side fill-ups (when one runs out of gas.)

Not sure I buy that.

They had an event at our school last year where they "taped" teachers "to the wall". You could pay a dollar to get a foot of tape, to put on a teacher of your choice. Kinda silly IMO, but people seemed to like it. I think they should have done that to some of the students there...
