More text soon and info on this L2, but eventually and hopefully an L3 capable flyer. Once I earn my L2, and build another for the L3.

Still hoping for the April 2024 Spring L2 attempt. Looking like maybe LDRS42.

Im slowly building this, I will add text and detailed pics soon. Sorry for the delay.

It will probably have its maiden flight @ LDRS42.

I have some random pictures, pretty much what this is now. But to keep me motivated I started a thread, a new one.

I have some time to sit and type, this is going to be my L2 NAR Certification rocket....

I picked it up after my L1 Certification, it was more of a gift to myself for that flight that took place on 11/04/2023 with URRG at their field. I had drove up September 10th to check it out for my own eyes. But it was with my mother who has been in bad health but has been amazingly doing better with a few health issues ill leave it at that. Im now fully disabled(2012 injury at UPS), and in the middle of applying for my own disability claim so my issue is having to move around to help with the chronic pain I have and I don't spend a lot of time sitting during the day.

So back to the main topic of this NAR L2 bird. Its looking like it will probably weigh in about 18 lbs or so, without the motor. For the cert flight I was planning on J or K impulse motor to get it up, the chute out, and then back down safely. That was part of the decision to get a rocket 5.5" in diameter that's 91.5" in length. It will be black and bright orange eventually im hoping to get it sprayed as well for the cert but its not really necessary.

I will add better pictures and more step by step photos with some detailed text for this thread soon. I have a device called a "Parachute Can", its just like it sounds but is almost fail proof to work. I've filed a Patent on this but life has gotten in the way as I picked up this wonderful flyer from LOC Precision back in December 2023.

I've been struggling to get organized, but I am finally set up enough in this temporary living situation until I get back in my own house. Other family is still in my Bloomsburg, PA address. So for now this is what I'm dealing with but like said setup enough to assemble a almost 8 foot long rocket.

More text and some better in order pictures later today, thats my goal to show some of the bulld progress. I guess the newest update is the 1515 rail buttons, one being in one of 4 centering rings. Its not going anywhere for sure! I'll do my best to keep this somewhat in progress build updated.

"Michael's Rocketry", is also a goal to start for me as well. Its going good! More info with that though I want to stay focused on this. Today I will pull it all apart and lay it out on the bed so it can be seen whats been done so far. Glue is not far off, as this will be rocket to take an L3 impulse motor eventually. I plan to build one more but In 98mm, same 5.5" Magnum 3E airframe from LOC. Thats all for now, I'll post more soon now that things are calmed down around me and taking care of my mother...

I woke up and got the hardware for the forward most centering ring tightened and added Red LOC-Tite. Also started the longer process of getting the fins glued on, with fin #1. Now, dry time until later today or maybe 2morrow for fin #2.

I was able to get fins #2 and #3 glued in. Fillets internal and external will follow shortly. That's all the updates while this dries, fin #2 was just glued, and weight placed on it to keep it accurate with the others to promote a stable flight. Dry time...

All 3 fins are glued at the locking points in the fin can, and the root cords to the motor tube. Today, I started one of three layers for internal work. I'll spin it 2 more times to give these more strength will building is in progress. Dry time....

It’s coming along and looking great! 🥰🚀🚀🚀

I added more glue in the same spot, but aft of the first "batch", I'll call it. This will need to dry until morning now, its about 65° F in this room so its taking a little longer to dry. No big deal, I have a nosecone that needs work as well. But later on, I need to get some fresh air right now.

Just so you don’t get too far along with the wrong impressions, you can’t use the same rocket for your L3 flight. You can’t even build the L3 rocket until you have your L2 cert.
Michael knows that, this is his L2 build but making it capable for L3 flights later on.

This is an L2, Certification build thread. If it and it will bearing a safe recovery make it to one day sooner burn on a baby M. It will, but for today....

Progress on the L2.

The upper airframe is removable as well as the forward or aft most bulkhead in the nosecone. That(NC only) got 5 min epoxy for it to anchor the all thread and needed weight to counter act the fin can and weight there.

I used 3 screws and nuts to attach the upper airframe. I also added the 3rd 1515 rail button but in the upper airframe or Av Bay. Also got JB weld on the Aeropack 54mm L, as well as glue on the centering rings. One thing to do yet is drill the 5 bolt holes as the hole retainer idea rests on them.

I'll let the glue inside the lower airframe dry a little more as I add some extra. This little but many layers will make these fins super strong as well as injecting glue in between the 3rd and 4th CRs. That's about it I got done so far today. Gonna take a short break, oh. I was able to tighten all 12 Stainless hex head bolts and nylon threaded lock nuts on the aft CR too. Been busy!

I was able to get more glue inside as I spun it a little on the cradel, I've spread that glue around so it dries by morning or late afternoon Sunday the 14th.

I am also working on the Magnum 5.5 as we speak, but I have the center 54 with 6 29's. Oddly enough I looked at the 5.5 magnum page not too long ago and it looks like they have recently discontinued the 54 w/6 29 cluster variant. I am building this one to replace the 7 29 cluster Ultimate that had a spicier than intended landing at Air Fest. Lost 2 fins and split the body at the coupler since the (unnamed to protect the innocent) commercial altimeter never fired the main. So instead of trying to repair it I thought it would be a good time to build the 5.5 that had been sitting in my build pile for a year. I am going tip to tip and full body fiber for the Magnum.

You know you can't use same rocket for L2 and L3. Wrong

Awesome!

Today I spun the rocket to put more glue internally. Also last night I was able to get BSI 30 minute epoxy in the nosecone on the forward bulkhead. Its slow now as the glue takes quite a while to dry, here's some pictures from today.

Its not an L3 build either, but it will fly on a Baby M motor one day. But obviously after the L3 build process. I'm still debating if I want another of these for the L3.

But for the L2 cert im thinking a mid to high J or even a K motor. Its gonna go up, I'm getting excited about it. More updates and flight videos will come after I pass the written test. This is it for now.
