I have a shortcut on my desktop for OR. When I try to open it, I get a error that says it "... is not a valid Win32 application."

I have the latest version of Java, and OR. Its on a Gateway Laptop.

Everything else seems to be fine, but I can't open any of the versions of OpenRocket...

What did I do? Did I mess with the wrong things on my computer again?

Thanks,

:blush::eyeroll:

Have you tried opening up the application without the shortcut?

What does the shortcut properties (right-click) say for the target?

Are you Win95 or 7?

Mine (Win7) says - "C:\Program Files\OpenRocket\OpenRocket-12.03.jar"

JMS, yes, l have had Java check for the latest version.

GJD, I also get the same error when I try to open it right from the folder.

BrianC, I actually have Vista. 4gig 64bit.

This is what I get " C:\Users\Jeffrey\Downloads\OpenRocket-12.03.jar "

Like the title says, "it used to work..."

Please bear with me, I am not very computer literate.

Ok, wierd. If I right click the shortcut, and click 'open with...", I open with Java and it works.

I've never had to do that before.

:pc: :confused2:

Looks like OpenRocket was still 'bound' to another (older) version of Java and was looking for that.

If this happened immediately after updating to a newer version of Java, that would explain it. Do that right click, open with, and then check the box that says always use this program. Should fix it.

Sounds like you lost the file association. Try S-1's suggestion first. If not, then dig a little deeper. Open the file association dialog as shown here: https://ask-leo.com/where_did_file_associations_go_in_windows_vista.html

Scroll down to the listing for .jar and highlight it. Then click on the "Change Program" button. 'Browse' to C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin and select the file "javaw.exe".

Salvage-1, that was it! (and I was that close)

I chose the "always open with..." Java, now it works from the shortcut.

I wonder what I did to mess it up?

Oh well, works now!

Thanks everybody.

YOU didnt mess anything up.. Windows is capable of doing that all by itself.
