I plan to be making a donation to support Ukrainian people impacted by the crisis. The hard part is "which charity" to pick.

I prefer secular ones rather than religious based ones. Of course there is Red Cross, but has anyone researched this to identify one that gets a lot of bang for the buck?

No. I can't help you. However, I saw in the TV that a Ukrainian wine producer shut down and is now producing Multitov coctails. As a show of support, I'd like to buy some of the special labels they made up.

I was asking around with the same intent, and got pointed to the National Bank of Ukraine by the local Ukrainian American Society:

"Way to give directly to the Ukrainian people: National Bank of Ukraine has opened up two accounts: Humanitarian & Military, which is accepting direct donations from around the world. An easy to way to direct your fear, concern, support for Ukraine during this existential threat. "

Option 1: Support Ukraine’s Armed Forces:

Option 2: Fundraising Account for Humanitarian Assistance to Ukrainians Affected by Russia’s Aggression:

Thank you fyrwrz! My family and my very close friends in Ukraine thank you as well.
Knocking on wood that so far all of them have escaped the majority of this.
They report the presence of the military in the city, but so far none of the extreme fighting and or rocket attacks in Odessa.
A co-worker talked to me this morning, she is from small city in the south east. It also is the home of a military airfield. She said the entire city has been destroyed.

This looks like the best option. A few of the "alphabet charities" (UNICEF, etc ) have been known to "skim" donations ( United Way, also ), with only a small percentage actually getting through to victims in other parts of the world.

One of the best is Chevra USA. http://chevrahumanitarian.org/index.php
They have almost 40 soup kitchens operating in Ukraine right now. They have a convoy sitting at the Polish border waiting to get back in with more supplies. And they are working with Ukrainian refugees in Poland right now. This organization has been in Ukraine for over 25 years! Right now I'm praying that their soup kitchens survive the Russian invasion. Even if they destroy all of them, Chevra USA will be back in with supplies as soon as it is possible. I've known the founder, Dr. Michael Schiffman, for over 40 years. We we room-mates in school, uh....several years ago (44years...good grief!). Solid friend and organization. Started working with Holocaust survivors in Ukraine over 25 years ago. Expanded to others as the years have gone by.

Find a way to give. The need is great.
