Why am I trolling TRF on arguably the biggest party night of the year? 'Cause we're hosting a New Year's Eve party for my ten year old daughter and four of her girlfriends. Thank goodness we've passed/survived the Dance Party 4 marathon and are on to (by the smell of it) painting nails. I'm just huddled in the corner, updating/installing a new XBMC player and wandering the internet, making sure nobody dies or seriously injures themselves.

Bad news...despite her promise not to hand them out until just before midnight, my wife just handed out the party horns. I'm now trapped in a room with five dying, asthmatic ducks. :y:

Much better than most. It is better to keep them in your home under control then to let them out and hope for the best.

I am safely ensconced at home. Going to watch Judge Dredd and something else the go to bed. :)

We are baby sitting the grandson so the daughter and her husband can have fun. I guess we are to old to have fun on New Years Eve LOL!

I spent the night at home. There were a lot of parties on post but they were alcohol free. I just do not see the point.

I guess I am a little antisocial.

The wife and I did the bluehair special at Ruth's Chris tonight and have been hunkered down watching movies ever since. If you ask me, tonight has been the best night of the year.

I got to stay home (almost alone-my brother is here) playing video games, eating wings, watching movies, and talking to friends. I'd say it has been a good night.

Staying up until midnight used to be a challenge. Now it is just a bad habit.

Well if it makes you feel better I'm 28 single with no kids and trolling this forum in between playing tetris (online). Why am I not out at a bar or with friends? Various reasons in part because I'm sort of over the whole bar and club scene. Most of my friends are out of town. The rest are married and their wifes typically do not like me. They say I'm a bad influence on their husbands.. The funny part is it's not that I'm a bad influence their husbands it's all their husbands wanting to let lose.. Which typically leads to a bar in which a large quantity of $1 Bills are needed.

Next year I might try going to Vegas but everytime i look to book a room the prices are INSANE for NYE.

At work, listening to 2 1300mw units run while we finish the overhaul on their 600mw younger brother. If I was at home, I would have been in bed long ago. Not a social animal, tend to stick to myself. Have some fireworks that have been waiting since summer, probably would have shot them shortly after dark. (Texas does have its good points)

About 20 minutes south of Vegas are the towns of Primm and Jean. There are several hotel/casinos that have reasonable rates, as long as you don't have to have the latest and greatest. (OK they are from the 60's probably). Not true Vegas, but close enough for me.
I have a client in Primm. When I go there, I usually stay at the Gold Nugget in Jean.

Have fun, Play safe

Consider it encouraging them in future endeavours! I spent New Year's Eve doing a plane and bus ride home from the Fiesta Bowl parade and marching band competition. Really great group of kids and a good trip all around.

I spent New Years at home, waiting for my pager to go off.

Being a volunteer fire fighter, I was on-call & waiting to see if the illegal fireworks cause any fires. Thankfully I didn't get a call - all up it was a pretty quiet night. Other years I have and we end up investigating "Sound of explosion" calls for half the night.

I was in bed a little before 1am.

Currently (0400) at a video game / movie night with the scout troop. Out of 12 scouts attending 11 are still awake. When they get stiff at the video games they go play a round or three of dodge ball.

They have shown a interest in some of the you tube rocket launch videos. :dark:
Planting ideas for the future.

I think we had the lights out by 1am (they are 10 after all), and amazingly they're still asleep. Of course it helps that they're in the "playroom" which I finished out for a home theater (= no windows). I see a serious nap in my wife's future...she's not a late night (or early morning) person.

Parents are due at 10:30, so we've decided to wake them by 9 if they don't get up on their own.

That image seriously lightened up my day. Just got in from 7.5 hrs in the ER. The Viking Princess went down and fractured her ankle. We were invited to a friend's casino early (we both work in another NA one) to see the visual arts dept decorations. We were NOT out to celebrate and no drinking was involved (dang it!). Who knew there was a whole section of the population that gathers in hospital for this annual celebration??? I certainly didn't know. Anyway- made me laff for the first time in 2013-Grateful thanks!!

Chuck are you back stateside?

Sounds like a fun night for a group of girls!

Our oldest stayed with friends last night, and our second oldest's girlfriend crashed on our couch, so that neither would be on the road during a time when the risk of drunk drivers is higher.

None of us made it through the night, with all of us (except Nick and his girlfriend, they're nocturnal) heading to bed at about 11PM.

For the past 3-4 years we've celebrated with London (GMT FTW!), the Azores, and St Croix/USVI...this was the first local-midnight celebration for most of them. We decided long ago we'd do what we could to have the "cool" stuff at our house to increase the likelihood of the gatherings happening under reasonable supervision while still being fun. So far so good, but we've got a lot of years to go...

We had a few friends over, made chicken wings in the new smoker, and shot the potato cannon a couple of times at midnight (well, we had to use apples for ammo, but the effect is the same).

I'm ready for this year to be better than the last.
