Well I must say I'm building the Estes Mercury Atlas right now and I think that'll be impressive enough but I can only imagine how awesome a huge one from Sheri's workshop would be, especially a cluster with all 3 motors firing! I also have to add that the GT2 is unbelievable, Sheri! Would that Fly on two F engines also or would that not be enough power? It seems if it'll hit 600 ft on G's, that you might be able to do it but I don't know if anyone has tested that.

Glenn

It would probably get to a decent altitude, but no margin of safety if only one lit. I think the new G77R would be perfect and its a lot cheaper than the G80.

Sheri, hate to bring this thread "back to life," but I have a scale
question about your fantastic Gemini Titan model. What is the
"official" color of that band just below the equipment module
adapter near the top of the Titan launch vehicle, and what is the
source of your using this color? I've looked at a number of color
pics of the real Gemini Titan's 1, 2 & 3 (which are the only ones I
can find that has this particular band) and the color(s) seem to
be anything from yellow, orange, gold, copper, olive drab, and
somewhere in between.

Any and all help on this matter will be appreciated!

Dave,

That band was only on GT-1 and 3 as you can see in the attached photo. The color is "tan," but I can't be any more precise about the exact shade.

Hope this helps.

The best I could do is just eyeball the color, I used the Testors brush on Tan. If you find anything on it let me know also.
Thanks!!!

Thanks, Drew and Sheri. I really thought GT-2 also had that
band, as it was identified as such in one of the books on the
Gemini Titan series I've read (maybe the editors misidentified
the GT in the captions). Anyhow, even those pics in your link to
your last post, that band looks more like olive drab (at least, on
my computer). Do you think Martin Marietta would have a
definitive answer to that question (even after all these years)?
I need to know before I fully finish building my PDRocketry's GT-3.

Ok, here's an "update" to my previous post:

Went to check with several books I have in my possession and
this is what I can report:

In the book The Illustrated Encyclopedia of SPACE TECHNOLOGY
by Kenneth Gatland (1982), on page 67 there's a color pic of a
Gemini Titan liftoff that shows an obvious band below the equipment adapter section. In this picture the band looks nearly
olive drab. On page 51, where there is an eight page foldout
spread of various launch vehicles from many nations, the scale
drawing of the Gemini Titan DOES show a tan colored band.

Another book, LIFE IN SPACE (1983), on pages 88 - 89 it has a
color pic of the Gemini Titan - 3 liftoff; here the band looks olive
drab (again).

Finally, in the book How NASA Learned to Fly In Space by David
M. Harland (2004), on page 29 there's a black & while photo of
the Gemini Titan - 2's aborted engine shut down on the first launch attempt; there's clearly a band below the equipment
adapter section (but, since the photo is b&w, color is inconclusive).

I'm going to try to contact someone at Martin Marietta to see if
an answer to this question can be given. Wish me luck...
