Hey everyone,

I am Tom, originally from Belgium and moved to the US in 2016.
Prior to moving I have served in the Belgian Army for 13.5 years.

Now I am a registered nurse in a trauma hospital in the central Florida region.

as much as I enjoy working out physically, I love a good mental workout with escape rooms, and 3D design.

I have been thinking about venturing into model rocketry for a while now and have finally taken the step to do so.

my goals for the next 5 years are:
-build a kit rocket (well, maybe a few...lol)
-design and build my own mid-power rocket
-become level 1 high power certified (maybe even level 2)

off to the estes website and choose my first rocket(s)

Very good set of goals.

If you’re still shopping, here are a few of my favorites. Some I’ve built, some I’ve only been lucky enough to see fly at club launches.

FlisKits Doubles. One- or two-stage MicroMaxx. Old-school construction (except for Kevlar shock string)

https://www.fliskits.com/WPRESS/product/doubles/
Estes Luna Bug. Mini-motors, featherweight recovery. Fire-and-forget!

https://estesrockets.com/products/luna-bug
Estes Hi-Flier. Streamer-recovery hot rod.

https://estesrockets.com/products/hi-flier
Estes Boosted Bertha. Two-stage fatty.

https://estesrockets.com/products/boosted-bertha
Estes Space Corps - Luna Scout. Mini-sized heavy-draggy rocket.

https://estesrockets.com/products/space-corps-lunar-scout-rocket
These will allow you to fly A motors or smaller all day and get something different every time.

Great introduction post!

Be sure to check out the techniques forum for lots of good tips. I hope you get to visit a club to see how much variety is out there. There are many ways to enjoy the hobby.

Best Regards,

Sandy.

Welcome to the States,

I would suggest finding a rocketry club in your area. It's a great way multiply your fun! Flying rockets on your own is fun, but flying them with friends? Tough to beat that! Besides, its always better to have more than one set of eyes on the rocket's flight! LOL!

Check out the National Association of Rocketry website for sections in your area and the Tripoli Rocketry Association website for prefectures in your area. I'm sure they are filled with helpful people. There are about 12 NAR sections in Florida and four TRA prefectures. Plenty to choose from. Find a launch and try them out!

Good luck.

Brad
