Our launch last week was cancelled so we have it this weekend. Not many attended today, but expect a lot of folks tomorrow. We did have 3 L3 cert flights today. The away cell pads were almost as busy as the back row.

Only got 3 flights in, one EX and a couple of commercial motors, J350W and a G64W on the last flight as the wind was picking up all day.

Gorgeous day yesterday. It was our backup day so not a ton of flyers but because of the maple festival there were quite a few people who came by to observe and learn about rocketry or reignite an old passion. Feeling more comfortable with G motors now and got to try out my JLCR and believe me the shorter walks were appreciated.

Not such a good day today. It got windy so I launched early. Used a I284W. Got about 4000 ft. but everyone lost track of it, and the GPS quit at launch. Heard the main deployment charge go off, but no one saw it. Walked 8 miles crisscrossing the area and never found it.

Only flew one rocket last Sunday. I284W. The GPS quit as it left the pad and it ducked behind a cloud and was never seen again. Only went 4100 ft. and we heard the main deployment charge go off about a minute after apogee but nobody got eyes on it. Walked about 8 miles around the farm searching for it. No luck.

Oh well, as I tell everyone else, if you can't afford to lose it, don't fly it.

Had a fun day at the MTA yesterday. 6 characterization static tests of 2 new propellants I've "designed". A variation of a blue someone else designed and a variation of Tony Alcocer's Swamp Gas. Also got to fly 3 rockets. One being on my custom experimental red. It was raining pretty good on the drive out, but cleared up for some nice weather mid day. Then it started raining again on the drive out.

I hope I've got this right. Very rough estimate of my static tests so far this year. I'm working at a much smaller scale than you guys! I admit if I start making 10 flights per day I may stop keeping track. Maybe I'll make a guesstimate when I use up my first pound of KNO3, which might be in the next millennium. Lessee.. if my typical Isp is 65 and the KNO3 is 60 percent by weight (can I say that here? The rest of the propellant is eye of newt.), and I waste 20 percent.... This assumes I don't make any bigger motors.

I think meters of altitude per Newton seconds of impulse would be better, IF it's going to be a competition.

I've experienced what you mean about sailboats a number of times, even with very disparate boats. For instance, the time I chased a 30 or 40 foot Wharram catamaran with a Windsurfer.

I have flown a (currently unobtanium) FlightSketch Comp in an MMX model. Whether it’s cheap enough (should it become available again) or not I can’t say. Data are HERE. That flight would be in the 2021 Newton Tally somewhere…..

Interesting. That IS light enough for an MMX, though it's still a substantial weight penalty. I see what seem to be comparable gadgets on eRockets.
