Keep watch over this thread and the FlisKits web site for information about the upcoming

New England Model Rocketry Convention

NEMROC 2008 is a GO and we hope to have lots of information concerning the convention shortly.

What we DO know at this time is the following:

Location: Amesbury, MA
Date: October 18th and 19th (Sat & Sun)

Day 1: Indoors, a full day of classes, build sessions, vendors and more!
Day 2: Outdoors, a full day of flying from 1/8A through K motors (vendors too!)!

Keep watch for more information on this, the most exciting rocketry event in New England!

On Saturday, October 18,2008 at the Amesbury Middle School, Amesbury, MA.

The speaker invitations have been sent out together with some of the vendor invites.

We anticipate 9-10 excellent seminars and a really good Meet the Vendor forum. We're expecting 8+ vendors so it should be pretty good, and vendor tables will be set up in the cafeteria all day.

Jim Flis of FLISKITS is sponsoring a build session or two during the day.

Our website is https://www.nemroc.org and it should be updated by early next week with the 2008 info. (Right now we have last years info on it.)

If your a vendor and I didn't contact you yet, and you want to attend, please e-mail me.

Much more soon.

Yea! :) We're actually moving along and this time Bob and I are only a *little* bit late... :)

One of these days we will actually be "on time" or, heaven help us, "early"... Really... ...hey, it could happen... :)

Mark yer calendars!

But when we move - WATCH OUT!

More than half of the speakers have comfirmed and 7 of the 10 invited vendors have accepted our invitation to have tables today! Not bad for a days work.

Full details should be posted a https://www.nemroc.org this weekend.

Horay.

Folks

We're counting down the days till NEMROC 2008. If you haven't registered simply go to https://www.nemroc.org and do it.

  • We have a great 2-day event.
  • On Saturday October 18, we have our Conference featuring 9 presentations on all aspects of hobby rocketry.
    1. Boris Katan, our CMASS Cluster Monkey, will discuss how to make reliable igniters and how to make sure all motors in a cluster light all the time, every time. On his Toginator, he got 26 of 26 motors to light so he really knows his stuff.
    2. Dan Wolman, our most prolific wingman, will discuss the how-tos and how-not-tos of building and flying rocket propelled gliders.
    3. Bill Spadafora, NAR S&T Secretary and CMASS President, will provide a 2008 S&T motor testing and status report. Many changes occurred in S&T in 2008 and Bill will bring everyone up to date.
    4. Bob Krech, CMASS Senior Advisor, will discuss the fabrication of strong but lightweight composite airframe tubes from biaxial braid from Soller Composites.
    5. Joe Giarusso, Jim Dixon, and Mark Kibler, 3 experienced CMASS members that achieved L1 or L2 certifications this year, will discuss their design philosophies, and discuss how to make high power certifications painless.
    6. Phil Chouinard, a long time CMASS member, will demonstrate how to make great in-flight videos with a wireless Booster Vision Rocket Video System and a portable Digital Video Recorder.
    7. Dave Lindbergh, a professional electronics engineer and CMASS L2 member, will describe some of the sophisticated rocket electronics, cameras, location telemetry and GPS guidance he as assembled mostly from e-bay parts.
    8. Weare Middle School SLI team will discuss their adventures at NASA Marshal Space Flight Center where their K powered rocket flew to 5282 feet, just 2 feet from the 5280 foot target altitude, a new SLI record.
    9. Boris Katan’s Updated Far Out Rockets, a magnificent Audio-Video Presentation on New England Rocketry, will be continuously playing in Classroom C.
  • 8 vendors who will be presenting a vendors forum during the lunch break.
  • Lots of free stuff including a special FLISKITS NEMROC 2008 kit, the Avalear in memory of Glen Avalear, a longtime rocketeer who passed away in July, build sessions, raffles, etc.
  • A fantastic launch on Sunday, October 19 at our 250+ Woodsom Farm Park launch site. Impulse levels from micro-max to J+. At least 300 flights.
  • The cost for the conference is $15 for adults, $10 for students, and $5 for TARC team members. Cost of the launch is $5 for flyiers without a CMASS season pass.
  • You'll get more than this amount in freebees so don't wait. Sign up now at https://www.nemroc.org

So this won't be totally boring I'm going to go into what we do to test the motors. I've dug up some video clips and pictures that no one has seen in a while.

Can you bring the test stand and set it up outside to test a few motors? Art Rose used to do this at Pearl River and it always attracted a lot of interest. Here's a pic of one of the tests from back in the day :)

The Avalear commemorative kit documentation is done and will be ordered in the morning (I've already secured word that it will be ready for pick up on Thursday).

Parts for the Avalear have been ordered and should be in Thursday for a Friday kitting party (Kathy and I)

The Avalear uses sheet stock for the fins. It is rated as Skill Level 1.5 for this reason. The goal of this model will be to help introduce beginners to the joys of cutting fins. :)

For the NEMROC build session I will have 25 sets of laser cut fins for the Avalear to aid in speeding along the build session, so *that* version of the kit will be Skill Level 1 (the fins will be held separately and handed out at the build session).

Range Box sticker is done and ordered.

Name Tags are done and will be printed shortly

Getting down to the wire! :)

I could but I'm not sure how happy the school would be about it.

I could even fire one inside. Here's a still from one of the video clips. I did it in my basement. I think I fired two of them before my wife noticed.

Oh goody, the blooper reel....

There a recouple that are good for a chuckle but nothing great. I was I had a camera rolling the time we fired a J and half we through the burn the test stand started to move. It's real hard to decide which way to run.

Going to be a heck of a weekend :) I may even bring a few of my pumpkins down for display (see attached)
