People here are generally pretty gentle with newcomers, it’s the only way we grow. It sounds to me like you’re coming in with a mind to discover, learn, and do things the right way, by which I mean the safe way. That will get you far.

Have you got any rockets or a launch site picked out? We’ve got members from around the globe and I’m sure somebody would be glad to point you in the right direction if you feel like you need it.

Welcome to the party Mr.Bishop and son. When I came back in '06 one of the first things I did was find my favorite childhood rocket, an Estes Goblin. What was yours ? We have fewer brick and mortar options but many more online vendors. If you have a Hobby Lobby or Hobbytown near you you may find some Estes there.

Three to get you started:

Finding a flying field is a little more challenging. Many of us here fly with a club:

I still consider myself new here (been here for about a month), and I have already learned a ton of stuff. Don't be afraid to ask questions, except don't ask "what's the best L1 kit" as your first question... That's an interesting thread nevertheless (it wasn't my question but I did end up participating because I was learning).
