At the same time, estes probably does sell the majority of the kits sold. I mean, if you look at it, you don't see fliskits or semroc when you go into micheals. You see Estes.
The number one state for model rocket sales: California.
(This was true back in the late 1980s-early 1990s. I have no reason to believe this has changed).
Never seen anybody's kit other than Estes at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, local hobby stores, etc. I don't know about retail to know why other kit manufacturers do not explore the big chain markets. Probably something to do with quantity vs. profit.
Estes vs all others combined? I don't think so.
I'm sure I missed some, but
Fliskits
Squirrel Works
Semroc (eRocket)
Rocketarium
ASP
True Modelers
US Rockets
Custom
Dr. Zooch
Launch Pad
NewWay
Sunward
Quest
Skymodel
When I was a kid ALL model rockets were known generically as "estes rockets". Actually heard one guy say he preferred the Centuri estes rockets...
That's like how some regional dialects refer to all sodas as "Cokes." "What kind of Coke do you want?" "I'll have a root beer, thanks."
