Well if you were there, and saw the skid drag all three rocket went ''camping in the woods. Steve's Peco's Pete was found 2-3 mi. from the range intact all but the nosed cone. [Which is color me gone]. And I called a boom truck in and got the Gone Bananas down. Any one who flys there should write this down CICLE J TREE service he only lives 11 mi from the site and said to call him 24/7...they climb or use the 80ft boom truck. I thought a 100 bucks was way more than fair, especially considering what was at stake..Edgar Jacobs...931-728-6499... all you manchester fliers should write that down.
I went 6200, Steve, smoked me with 9700 and I have not heard from Super Dave to see how high Smoke 'em went.

Thanks to Joe and Lance and everyone else who made sure we had a nice time.....

.....................................................................

Crazy Jim law .... Get more M pads = get more M drags...I guarantee LOL

....................................................................

I think we did pretty darn good considering.

See, I told you ya didn't have to have big rockets and motors to have BIG fun! What started out as a simple 2-way between myself and Rocketkyle, [Congrats on your L-3 Kaycee] turned into a major happening.

...........................................................

And the 3-way M-2200 skid race that gave new meaning to "SOUTHERN THUNDER"!!!
Pecos Pete
GONE BANANAS
Smoke em- if you got em!

Motors hardware and rockets courtesy of Wildman rocketry, AMW and our wallets. Look for pic's and story by Mark Canepa in a upcoming issue of Rockets Mag. He was the guy out in the field all day snapping the money shots for us.

..............................................................

And the winners are......in a Wildman or Crazy Jim drag race...all of you that had fun....every one was a winner!

Hoped you all enjoyed the 2 heat k and l drag yesterday as much as I did, and more of you join in on the fun in the future. Come on over to the Dark Side with the rest of us, all who did will have to admit "I told you so!"

So let's get some pic's posted guys . I was too busy trying to talk every one into doing it, to take any shots and I know there are some heavey duty MONEY shots floating around out there.
And thanks all to those who particpated. It was nice making new friends and I hope to fly again with all of you! Any one going to Nerff or LDRS.....Hey I'm game and got more motors.

I have caused enough chaos and mayhem in this town, time to move on.

NERFF is next on the hit list.Any takers?

C.J.

Ps . side bet....don't forget Super Dave ...you owe Steve [Pecos Pete]and I dinner at Acme oyster house in the Big Easy!

That M2200SK race was spectacular. I had fun in the K race and would do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks for making these races happen! I'll have my videos up tomorrow.

do you have anu picures or videos of the race? It sounds awesome

Why does the Gone Banana's rocket flame look so different from the others - trick of the lighting?

Jim,

It was a fun weekend and I'm glad I got to see old friends and make some new one's.

The 4" rocket I flew in the "K" motor drag race was named "Renee Rocket" in honor of my daughter. The rocket left the earth on a Loki K350 Moonburner (7 second burn) and reached an altitude of 6,952'. It was recovered on the south end of the field right in front of the trees.

You did a fine job putting the drag races together and I'm thankful you let me join in the reindeer games.

If all works out properly with my work schedule my next big flying weekend will be at AIRFest in Argonia, Kansas during Labor Day weekend and I'll be ready to fly the "K" drag race and I've got a fine 6" rocket I'll enter into the "M" skidmotor drag race.

If you really want to get CRAZY let's do the "M" Skidmark drag race on 4" rockets. The Renee Rocket proved stable and she's ready to rock and roll.

See Ya at the Next One!

Andrew Grippo

Also put it as a post 'cingular wireless raising the bar'
I say we call cingular and get them to pay for the skids and we put up the rockets.....

I just watched the video of the DR. It was amazing. Looks like I need to go on a few road trips next year

Well if you were there, you know Gone Bananas slipped on a peel and landed in the tree .
On to the answers.

1.uncle.... it was a special BananaSkid....yellow flames and silver sparks...made specially by the zookeeper for Gone Bananas.

2. flamboyant..I will be in the opening event, and flying all three days...please join me.How about another 54mm race.you name it.[the motor]

3.agrippo....great fun flying with you...I did my L-3 in Agonia..that's where I got my nickname from Bob Brown [the 'Sheriff'] while attempting it, but that's another story! I have gotten real crazy at the Winternations where we did one of the most talked about events... the 3-way m-2200 drag in 4in rockets! I may just have to go back this year and do it with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4. SuperDave.... the only skidmarks you found, when you unpacked, were in your drawers!!!!!!! LOL. How high did you go and where did you find it. What's really up with the skid marks? Were you really that close to Bananas? I've heard of getting burnt, but this adds new meaning.

WEll ...LIKE I'VE SAID BEFORE..... I HAVE WRECKED ENOUGH HAVOC AND MAYHEM ON THIS PLACE.............on to NERFF!!!!!

Okay, I think I got around 6800. I'm one of "those guys" who really doesn't care how high it goes. I'm sure some day I will.

Andrew Grippo found the rocket about 1/2-3/4 miles into the woods. All intact with the exception of an altimeter that blew out. Thanks goodness this didn't happen during my L3 attempt.

I came out full of ticks. EEEEE!

RE: Skidmarks....I think I went right through your thrust trail....the rocket's a little black an sooty......It could use a good wetsanding and another coat of clearcoat.

Speaking os skimarks, I ate at the restuarant we discussed and have been sick every since....oops, TMI....

Anyway, what kind of ignitor/ignitor trick did Steve use?
the video shows that his lit up first........

Hey Jim,

After having met you in Walcott this past weekend, and looking at the time/date stamp of this post -
That explains alot. Up all night working on rockets? Or did Tim keep you up late at the watering hole? :D

Great shots, great stuff. Have fun on your next stop!!

Are you just kidding and im smelling sarcasm in that statement or is it really the smoke of a BannanaSkid im smelling (which by the way is really impressive since i wasnt at the launch, its my Spidey Smell i guess)

Liek i can see some slight diffrences between your skid and the others but I am chalking those up to light trickery..

If its not and you got a motor/load "custom" made for it.. thats extremely cool.. :) although in this hobby that wouldnt suprise me that much

More importantly, was it a certified load?...if indeed it was a custom build? I too detect a hint of sarcasm, in which case:

Beautiful picture and video, wish I could have been there...

I was just kidding.... [about the custom skid].........just a case of temperarly.........GONE BANANAS!!!!!!!

Actually it is not trickery, if you look at the pic of all three at launch, the smoke and flames are definately different than the other two.. We will have to hear from Paul mat AMWto tell us the why.
