Although I don't currently own a foil hat, this one has me considering it. Wtf n Y%8 is such a big deal? I'll happily take the virus over the panic crapola that's making billions for "someone(s")..Where do I sign up?

My workplace has gone to work from home for all sites around the world. As a hardware engineer I guess I will have to attend a couple of days a week to attend to the hardware. The spectrometers are a bit big to take home :).

Here in Fort Wayne a Kroger store was busy this afternoon, but not unbearable. I found everything I wanted easily, including eggs, bread, and milk. Yeast was hard to find, but only because it was on the top shelf above the Jello and not near the flour and sugar where I thought it should have been. I didn't look for TP, we have enough.

We did change our plans for the weekend. My 4 year old was asking to go see a Disney movie. We opted for a 2 mile bike ride/hike through the woods instead. That's a win, and we probably would have been outside anyway since the Sun was out this afternoon.

Good choice!

Good choice!

To be honest, social distancing isn't a difficult concept for me. I enjoy going to concerts and amusement parks, but aside from that I would prefer not to be in large crowds. I'm just as content getting carry out at a restaurant as I am dining in and I already avoid the mall and stores during crowded times as much as possible.

Instead of going to the Peking Acrobats show at our arts theater, which was cancelled, I attended our local rocket launch. It's a small affair (<10 people today including a couple kids), and we lofted rockets for an hour and half while observing non-contact social distancing rules. Chance of cross infection nearly zero. But we got fresh air, sunlight, and inaugurated a season that proves to offer fewer soccer games intruding onto the grass for a while.

I was gonna go to the AMOREA launch but had on-call stuff come up. Glad you enjoyed it and I plan on being at all the rest of the launches.

After a long day at work, this introvert needs social distancing to recharge is batteries. I am not sure how true extroverts do it.

Colorado pharma company's test kits that give results in just two minutes still pending with FDA
AYTU Bioscience's speedy kit requires a small blood sample from a finger prick in order to determine the COVID-19 antibodies in the person's system
Mar 14, 2020

https://meaww.com/fast-result-2-minute-test-kit-coloarado-pahramaceuticals-aytu-bioscience

Josh Disbrow, CEO, AYTU, calls refers to the test as "a game-changer". AYTU Bioscience partnered with a Hong-Kong based manufacturer to produce a test kit that takes anywhere between two to ten minutes to provide results. But it awaits approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for public use.

"Very few tests have been FDA-approved despite the big need. Tests are getting approved but rapid point-of-care tests have not yet been approved. So if this can get approved, it would be among the first, if not the first," said Disbrow.

The company has placed an order for over 100,000 test kits to be distributed across the US. The kits bear similarities to those that have been in use in China for the past weeks and have helped detect confirmed cases by plenty.

"The FDA does have a provision whereby products like this and in times like this can go through emergency use authorization and we’ll pursue that angle," Disbrow added. He hopes that the FDA will speed up the approval process. Though, even with the approval, the company would require a week or two to ship the test kits to the U.S.

This speedy kit requires a small blood sample from a finger prick in order to determine the COVID-19 antibodies in the person's system.

Currently, the US is using nasal swabs to test Americans for the virus, which takes 48 hours to process results.

Stressing on the importance of the testing procedure, Disbrow said " The idea [is] that you could get something as quickly as 2-10 minutes to very quickly get sequestered, get quarantined, potentially get treatment. But really, detection is the critical piece right now and time is of the essence."

He also affirmed that the test yields 90 percent accurate results and the screenings can be undertaken in a doctor's clinic.

A Swiss pharmaceutical, Roche, is one such company that will test and detect potential coronavirus patients with its FDA approved automated test machines. These have been made available in at least 100 laboratories across the US, and are capable of testing up to 4,000 people per day, and provide results within 4 hours.

Interim Guidance for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/201...vents/mass-gatherings-ready-for-covid-19.html

Guidance as of 3/15/2020:

Large events and mass gatherings can contribute to the spread of COVID-19 in the United States via travelers who attend these events and introduce the virus to new communities. Examples of large events and mass gatherings include conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies. These events can be planned not only by organizations and communities but also by individuals.

Therefore, CDC, in accordance with its guidance for large events and mass gatherings, recommends that for the next 8 weeks, organizers (whether groups or individuals) cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States.

Events of any size should only be continued if they can be carried out with adherence to guidelines for protecting vulnerable populations, hand hygiene, and social distancing. When feasible, organizers could modify events to be virtual.

This recommendation does not apply to the day to day operation of organizations such as schools, institutes of higher learning, or businesses. This recommendation is made in an attempt to reduce introduction of the virus into new communities and to slow the spread of infection in communities already affected by the virus. This recommendation is not intended to supersede the advice of local public health officials.

Madrid. Monday morning. Just got thru security. No line. Nice.
All the stores are closed. the only thing open is a Starbucks self serve machine. Looks like a good place to dump a bunch of 10,20 euro coins that would just otherwise go into a jar at home.

I have my boarding pass in hand to get me to Seattle.
Uh oh.. at the check in desk they asked where I've been and slapped a little red sticker on my passport.
Ah well.. I wish I could've taken pictures at the security line. Trust me. You only dream about being the only one in line and security guys are all laughing and enjoying themselves. I'm cracking jokes with the security officer and the passport guys.
It really isn't too bad if you just roll with it.
Pic of the checkin counter. They said it was a full flight but not that many people had checked in. I think most people are just not showing up for the flights. Or they already left.

I don't fret much. The universe provides.
There are worse things in life than being stuck in Europe.
Things like ... running out of TP or wood glue or accidentally spilling all your wood glue on your TP stash. Do you save it for you or your rockets?

I am switching from TP to adult diapers if they truly are backlogged to 22 April.

Being rocketeers, if you're really desperate, you have the (admittedly expensive) option of using Estes WP as TP.

Me, I'd been spraying TP with flame retardant to convert it into WP, and may now need to wash the stuff to convert it back. Anyone looking at my laundry is going to get almost completely the wrong idea.

While I'm washing the WP/TP, I'm going to be laughing myself silly at the thought of those of you who have been using "dog barf" insulation as wadding. Good luck putting that to alternative use.

In a couple of weeks, Estes employees are going to get the same idea. WP will be as hard to buy as TP. If you intend to launch a rocket, you'll need to find alternative wadding, such as lettuce leaves.

Hmm...

... no. Nice try, but it didn't work. Not absorbent enough. Oh well, the leaves can still be used as WP.

So, how does "Flameproof Wadding" or "Recovery Wadding" or "Estes Wadding" become "WP"?? I see a "W", but I do not see a "P". It's a mad, mad, mad, mad thread.....

Isn't it going to shred?
Why not just make your butt flameproof?:D

Our company is having mandatory work from home, but my group is a skeleton crew and staggered days. This week I work Tu and Thurs next week MWF and I make the choice to leave early if need be? Days I don't come in I monitor the work load from home. I guess mandatory doesn't apply to everyone, I guess the idiots that have to come in for whatever reason puts the rest of us at risk. I think at some point the doors will be locked, but until we hear further. I would guess maybe 15% of the employees are actually here. I agree with Chuck, its not the virus that scares me, its the stupid people out there that cause more problems then there needs to be.

I never seen one of those before? I wonder how it works.

The solution to the TP situation is a Bidet, well as long as there's a water supply

+ a hair dryer?!?
Or how do you, bidet-aficionados, dry yourselves?

Just curious.

I do have a garden hose hooked up, green grass on the lawn, a couple of fluffy dogs, and bored school-deprived kids that can use a challenge to keep themselves busy with new and exciting tasks.

However, I am still missing the last (drying) step in this ghetto-bidet setup...
