For a long while when I ordered a " rocket kit " I would tell the wife its X- amount of dollars and add a thing or two here or there in my order and nothing was ever questioned. After I got my L-1 and was told by the wife the L-2 " KIT " Would be okay to purchase , Game on -Of course we all know good and well that 250.00 4 inch glass " kit" turned into a LOT more, real quick like, over time of course to keep the peace .
Fast forward to last week when I got an email from MadCow with a sale and recently having 2 bad events with a couple 29mm scratch kits- she said okay to a replacement "kit"- funny part was,
this time she said -
Just how much is this 65.00 kit gonna end up- 150/175 , ummm yeah probably-
Thankfully, just order it all now was the answer - but.................
Lets here it - does she let you ?
Do you just do it ?
Do you hide it ? lol ...............

I make more than 'she'. much more.
I've been doing 'this' since before 'she'..
'this' is but one hobby, one set of 'toys'
She knew what 'she' was getting into when she said 'I do'..

but, I now have 2 dogs in the house, and one of which is a therapy dog & does the odd time at Dog agility.

:D

I don't have a wife so I don't have that drama with my hobby

The wife and I so rarely splurge that we could be honorary Scotsmen. So when one of us does indulge the other never minds.

When I met my wife I had a couple hundred rocket kits and a lot of GSE, about 500 unbuilt 1/24-1/25 scale model kits, 15 or so R/C cars-boats-planes and a 1971 VW Super Beetle I was trying to gather parts for to restore. Needless to say she knew I had "a problem". When we moved 9 hours south most things got sold off except a few rare and/or sentimental items like my original range box and a NiB Judson super charger for a 36 horse air-cooled VW. My problem has stockpiled again with no questions asked over the last 15 years except to keep it off the kitchen table.

I don’t tell and she rarely asks. New box will arrive Friday with my first high power AMRAAM4.
Since she is the one who receives the mail, we’ll see what the response is. Usually it is just “You bought another rocket?”

Separate bank accounts = No worries!!;)

This... I do live with mom but in two weeks I get my own place. I occasionally get grounded lol. She always gives my rockets back. She knows I’ve spent like $3.3k on a senior design project for university rocketry. I haven’t told her how much I’ve spent on hobby for fun and she doesn’t ask.

All rockets come with free motors. They give you motor cases just to show up at a launch. Most kits are gifts and you save a ton just scratchbuilding a rocket. It really hurts the worst when the paint shows up on the checking account when I'm outta cash. And no, you don't get to meet the Viking Princess...she likes water in her lakes and I like mine dry.
