Someone may have already thought about this and posted it, and if so, I apologize. But upon seeing the Estes display stands for sale, the bulb above my head, that I thought had burnt out a long time ago, suddenly lit up like the sun. Why not make my own just for the heck of it? Now I suddenly have something to do with all of that left over balsa I have from fin sheets! I use quite a bit of it for stirring sticks and longer pieces to apply fillets to the upper centering ring once they are installed, but still have a gallon zip-loc bag full.

Those of you with good finishing skills could make something fairly purty for your rockets that just refuse to stand on their own. If someone has already crafted their own I'd love to see a picture.

I plan on making one for my Patriot M-104. It's the oldest rocket in our little fleet and I can't believe it's made it this long without my four year-old stepping on it and crushing the BT. As I mentioned before I let him get them down in the floor and play with them. Is that crazy or what? We're usually pretty safe now as long as I make him stand them up before he grabs the next one. Learned that trick the hard way. Next on the agenda is getting him to untangle and repack the chutes on his own. A few weeks ago he managed to get the chutes on the Patriot, Big Bertha, and Big Daddy tangled - TOGETHER!! That was one helluva mess.

BTW, did anyone know that the launch lug is actually the fuel cap on a LP rocket? Yep, and the plug end of a pair of iPod earbuds is the fuel hose for refueling. Fits perfectly.

Sorry for straying from my original topic. Thinking out loud.
