What did you do rocket wise today?

Today I went to work to make money so I can buy more rocket stuff.
Its all about rockets...

Cut out some Glassed balsa fins and laminated another. It is drying in the sun right now. I think they turned out WAY better than my first fins!

Hey Ari, sorry I didn't really stop an chat on Saturday. I had both boys in tow, and they were both in a mood to go off in different directions. I don't know that I would have been able to launch either of "my" rockets if their grandfather hadn't been out there with me.

I had a good day, both my flights were successful, even if I managed to forget how my camera works and took launch pad photos instead of starting video for the crayon drag race, and I'm really glad my DarkStar Mini didn't land on that dog. :eyepop:

The boys each got 2 good flights, but I missed tracking the fire-wizard because I was moving my alt-2 to my crayon. The nose-cone, chute, and a fin were lost, but the rest was recovered and have been re-retired. (And my youngest learned why I was trying to get him to go back to a streamer.)

I saw you carrying your pvc rocket around, and I heard Toe-Knee describing it on the PA, but I didn't see it launch. How did it go?

Ah, see, I should have kept reading. Looks like the rocket Van is being put to good use as well. :)

Watched Leah fly her Patriot twice, and flew my Sewer Pipe once. On an I297SK it went to 1,820' and recovered safely even though the main came out a little early.

Leah recovered her Patriot by herself both times, which makes me a proud rocket father.

Rocketgeek--the "nose cone" is so many ABS pipe reducer adapters with short lengths of pipe holding them together, and a pipe cap on the ultimate (smallest) one. Except for the MMT and CRs, the entire thing is from a plumbing supply store.

Ari.

ordered 3 sheets of 1/8" x 4" x 12" balsa, and my vendor decided to give me 3 extra sheets for free!
other than that, i mounted the shock cord to the motor mount, and went to work.

Finally removed the wood sliver that’s been in finger for over 3 weeks and had a Klondike Bar

Peeled the peel ply off my last glassed fin and cut it out! It came out pretty good!!

Tested electronics, cut nomax chute protectors, prepared ejection tubes with e-matches, got he Blackhawk 38 and Badd Azz all loaded (minus ejections charges) Ultra fatboy and Darkstar 3" dark are next up. All for this weekends REDGLARE. Might need to burn a rocket for the rocket weather gods. Might help keep the rain away. Burning skis always seemed to bring snow so I figure it might work:)
Is there a rocket god? Ular is the snow god.

Wind has been howling 40 mph all day, no rattle can painting today. I did some spot sanding on 1 LPR and two LPRs that I primed yesterday. All three are rockets that I swore I wouldn't get anal about painting. but once again I have been overcome with a desire for perfection. This is truly a vicious and debilitating hobby.

What Baddazz? I am on the fence about a couple of them. Want to grab one for my L1 license in case my Krusty inspired Big Daddy does not work out as I planned.

Strung chutes for the grade school launch tomorrow. However, if you'll take a look at your radar, you'll see a gigantic swirling pink and blue blob to the northwest of me. I don't see it happening. I'm not going to complain. It's more moisture.

I picked up a couple of motor tube recovery hard points and took some 60 grit to one of them so that it will have a grippy surface when I epoxy it in place with JB Weld.

The target for this project is my zippered tuber "Steppin' Razor II". My plan is to cut the body tube down about 10-12 inches or so and convert it from a simple motor deploy to dual deploy. The section to be removed contains the recovery anchor and I didn't build one into the motor mount. The new hard point is just the ticket to make this right without having to repaint. Again.

EDIT: Here's a link to CDI that shows the particular hardpoint I'm using ==> Hardpoint Anchor

I liked how my the 3" sewer piper flew so much, I went to the plumbing supply store again and picked up 10' of 6" sewer pipe plus associating fittings for the nose cone. Also ordered parachutes, shock cords, Nomex blankets, etc., from LOC to complete this project. Still working out exactly how tall I want to make it.

Ari.

I spent four precious homework hours fighting with a circuit board mill for a research project.

Canceled a rocket launch. Nature had her way.

Yeah, it's been cold and blowing up here, too. Too cold to paint and the wind just seens to carry the heat in the house off, also, so it's not very warm in here :p Working on two more new builds, a BT50 based I already wrote about. Cut out some fins for it and they're just too big. I'll be using them on a larger rocket. I started a BT 60 based rocket 8.75" long body tube with an 4 3/8ths" elepitical nose cone from SEMROC. I cut out an Estes Tapered Shroud for a tapered boat tail. Found the 20-60 motor mount rings and made the motor mount. I'll be using CA to stick the shroud on.

Now, back to designing fins for the smaller rocket.

What I did today was sand and spray paint. Sanded on upper body of Estes EPM 010. Spray painted nose cone of Xarconian with Dupli-Color primer. Spray painted QCC Explorer's tail cone nozzle looking part with a color found at WM the other night - Rust-Oleum metallic burnished bronze, which is sort of a slightly brownish-goldish black color.
Also looked at package of Quest Planet Probe wondering if today is a day I'm up to getting its paper shroud properly lined up.

FINALLY received my Hobbylinc order that had a couple of unusual delays.

Engines! Engines! Engines!

Kits! Kits! Kits!

Estes Patriot M104 for my nephew to build.
Estes Maxi Alpha III to slap together (I need one I can fly without emotional investment...)
Estes Big Daddy

More painting! Another coat of white on the SA-14 and Trident I SA-14 ready for decals and clear. Trident needs the nose cap painted on and some detailing on the nose cone and then it's make or break time with the stickshock body wrap/decals. Got clear shot on the Solar Sailer clone and the 4Square and painted the thingys on the Star Warrior black, to hide their mishapedness (with more mishapedness). More practice and patience needed badly. Next up for the Star Warrior is a coat of clear.

Documented RRC3 two-stage setup for CJ; started figuring out what I'm going to fly at KLOUDBurst, and renewed my son's and my NAR memberships.
