I wish Estes still made this rocket.

Darn, we should have swapped our weather. It was dry and clear here. We could have used the rain. Hopefully it will clear up for you to launch. Fires getting better, we really could use some more snow. Finger back to normal, I had a nurse check my “booger picker” as they called it and gave it a thumbs up 👍 Looking forward to hearing about your five rockets launching 😊🚀
Booger Picker finger. That is a good one.Ha! We got rained out. Good to hear the fires are dwindling . You must be sick of it. Near the end of the day,sky cleared.

I hooked up my Patriot with the 808 camera. Launch was good, however it landed in a tree. I sent you a vid of the launch.
Nice launch! Thank you for being an inspiration to the next generation of Rocketeers! 👍🚀
Thank you, he is instantly hooked on them and my trains too.

That would be great to see him find his way to both hobbies. 👍😉 Glad you got the bulk of the rocket and camera back. I think you can get the nose cone from Estes.

Its a little dinged up, however it still flies. Here's a Centuri Taurus I have had for a long time and I wish would come back as a Maxi-Brute or upscale myself. I bought it in 1980, in 81 it was the final production year. Be nice if I could cluster mini's on the outboards.:) Chute is still good condition with the almost see thru plastic they made back then.

Great looking classic rocket! I didn’t know Centuri had the diverse line of rockets, until I started seeing your posts on them. Being in the center of the Estes Universe, I never really knew much about the other brands that were out there. We would occasionally see Centuri and maybe Cox rockets at the hobby stores. But in very limited quantities. It would be fun to try and clone some of their designs 🤓👍

Thank you much. If you go to Ninfinger Productions: Model Rockets.com,you will see a drop down list and it will give you a list of all Estes and Centuri Catalogs from start to finish showing every kit in each catalog. It is a fun site to go to. Check it out someday. It will jog your memory.

I’ll have to check them out. I’m always a fan of vintage rockets 🚀. Watching your YouTube videos, looks like the weather is being agreeable for some launches. Did your nose cone and parachute ever blow out of the tree?

I haven't checked over there. Its easy to get the nosecone on line and chutes. I was more concerned about the spy vid camera.lol. Atleast the rocket eating tree was a little nice to me breaking the shock cord with the heavy wind gusts to about 45mph. :dancingelephant: ;) Gonna try some more if the rain goes away. Im going to checkout this big field and see if its good.Get some MidPower up soon. Yeah!!

Here is my 2nd NCR Aerobee Hi going up on an F40 white lighting motor years ago. A beautiful no wind day and an excellent flight and recovery. I have to get him up there again.

For further information read Michelle Evans book, The X-15 Rocket Plane, Flying the First Wings into Space.
It goes into detail of every pilot who flew it. She interviewed just about every living member of the program and in the case of the pilots who were already deceased at the time she was working on the book, their family members. Even the very private Neil Armstrong granted her a lengthy interview but made it clear he would only be discussing his work on the X-15 project and nothing else. (I discovered that in private correspondence with her.)
Unfortunately, I believe astronaut Joe H. Engle is the last pilot alive who flew the X-15. All others have passed on. Engle is the only astronaut who piloted both of the aerospace planes that the United States produced.
The X-15 and the Space Shuttle. Kurt

Some Mid Power rockets would be a nice way to close out the year. Your Aerobee Hi shot looks great! F engines seem to be a good choice for all around fun flights 👍🚀

Performance Hobbies with theirs. Presently in stock.
I thought this was Hangar 11?

I've been looking at the X-15, that will be available from Apogee, but it's big and expensive. I might still buy one.
A couple days ago I got a nose cone with canopy, from Estes, that I plan on using for a BT-50 size X-15.
It won't have all the appropriate decals, but the shape will be pretty close. I might fudge a bit to get stability without having to put a lot of weight in the nosecone.
It will be easy to transport and cheap build and launch.

Another fine looking rocket and launch! You have quite the history with your Mid-Power flights. 🚀 I need to get some more of my Mid-Power builds going. Hopefully you can get a few more launches before the weather changes. 👍

Thank you. We started Mid Power in 1987 with North Coast Rocketry . No Internet back then and I think I found out about them from a local Hobby shop in South Florida. Back then we did a lot of G motors with the heavy rockets. The G80 is very impressive . Im not Level 1 certified so that's as high as I can go. Still a bunch of fun .We are doing a Launch soon on a nice field that we got permission too. Hopefully you will get to Mid Power soon too.

That’s really cool you have been doing the Mid Power launches for almost three and a half decades. I can’t imagine how much you must have felt the thrill of launching something on a G motor! I think we did our first Mid Power launches with C.R.A.S.H. in 2012. The biggest motor so far has been black powder F sized. I’ve got kits for G sized composite motors, but they still need to get put together. Maybe next year, without the pandemic and fire danger 😉👍 I hope your field launches go well, can’t wait to see your field report on them. 🤓

I can't remember if I told you. The first Mid Power we did was an F20 Aerotech or Vulcan motor in a NCR Aerobee 29mm . When I got the motors in the mail , I was impressed on the bigger size compared to the 18 and 24mm's. Wow! A stick of dynamite!!😮😮 The flight was no comparison to the smaller rockets. We never saw it again. So I bought another Aerobee kit. LOLaero big.jpg

How are the fire situations out there?

I agree, when I opened up my first package of 29mm motors, I felt like I was lighting off my first M80 firecracker again. 😉 Sounds like you had fun with your first Aerobee, too bad it didn’t make it home. But it got you hooked on Mid Power rocketry 👍 We’re doing much better with the fires. The mountains have been getting some nice snow here lately. Unfortunately the county I live in is now locked down because of COVID. I hope you and your family are doing well.

It was a cool experiance to first have 29mm's. Yes, moving up to Mid Power was a great experiance. When you say Locked Down, what can you do and not do?Good to hear about the fires. We are staying safe and being very cautious. Will report back to you soon.

My limitations on flying more 29mm flights is a good launch site. The local CRASH Rocketry group has a nice set up, but the city has shut them down with COVID and the fires. I need to drive out to the desert and launch on some BLM land. But that’s a four hour drive. And freezing cold. The local officials are really watching any group activities here and would probably shut me down if I tried any launches with the rise in COVID here. I’m glad you guys are staying safe, hope you have a great Thanksgiving 😉
