Wow... that magazine even has an ad for my long lost Cashulette (via their direct mail outlet Countdown) plastic kit of the "crawler"/gantry/Apollo Saturn V that I got from the Kennedy Space Center gift shop in 1970. $4.95! Amazing I got my dad to spring for that much...

Bad news, folks.... I just took a quick look at the ac-supply page for the Estes Saturn V. There is a small change from what it looked like last week... see if you can spot the difference



It seems they are as mercenary as the rest of us! (can't really blame them can you?)
Depending on what the value shakes out at, I may have to modify my plans to purchase another one to squirrel away for later.

Yeah nothing local is showing up here although I've not checked out one of them yet. The other didn't hear about the release either. You have to be pro-active I guess since evidently the local Estes distributors aren't telling anyone around here about it!!

Looks like they fixed "some" of the issues: I on the big UNITED is still offset but there are straight UNITED STATES decals for the service module.

Based on the picture in post #10 in the Unboxing thread on the other forum, the fairings look the same as those included in the 2016 re-release of #2157. The Chief Designer hasn't mentioned that part in any of the hints given in this thread or on Facebook.

I know the guy that got one... he snared it about 30-40 minutes after I saw the post mentioning e-rockets. That was sometime between 10:30 and 11:00 PM EST when I saw the post here!

I finally opened my box but I'm not one to do something like a video... a bit too old and geezerly (is that a word?) for that. Of course you can get fairing replacements from sirius... but I note that the ridges on the new model are not quite as pronounced (read: more to actual scale!) than the originals.

It seems to me that Estes took many of the shortcomings of the previous versions to heart. They failed safe on the fins.

I was expecting them to be vacu-formed, and that's OK, but it looks like they changed them so they don't require any of the tedious sanding to get them to conform to the body tube that 2157 required. If so, yay!
