"Why do EV's need to accelerate like "supercars", with only a 300 mile range, when 50% of that power would double their range ?

Safety, for one thing . . . Let me explain . . .

The next time you are out in daily traffic, notice the "behavior" of the Drivers around you.

You don't need to explain to me. I work in traffic all day. Every day in road construction. Every car will kill you just as dead no matter speed capacity. All the accidents I've seen on my job sites have everything to do with the general motoring public not paying attention or caring about people like me. Nothing to do with how fast could or could not go.

Only because there are fewer on the streets currently, if the battery packs get damaged the result has a good chance of being a fire.
Sounds like insurance companies will be replacing a lot of vehicles . . . I predict soaring rates for EV owners, as numbers of EV vehicles increase. Also, people may be injured or killed in those fires, too.

Here we go again with you inventing your own maddening nonsense.

The sky isn't falling here.

Sorry, but I referred to the posts about fires in EV's, posted by other people . . . Take it up with them !

I'm guessing the best answer to the OP's question is to try to outrun the fire in the batteries.....

At least when I put out the ICE's fire it doesn't generate 10,000 gallons of hazardous materials liquid waste

You can;t really put out a lithium fire unless it's in an enclosed area, and then if it's in plastics, it still won't go out. I dealt with lithium in a job 40 years ago, we made germanium boules, and ion implanted them to make diodes. We used Lithium metal to implant. 8am, first cup of coffee. I need the vent hood, and the sink is full of crap, I turn on the faucet to was out the sink, and it freaking lit up like a magnesium flare. New guy initiation, lol.

If the EV fires are true, injuries and death will follow. If they are not true, then all of those people I quoted must be lying, right ? . . . Are you calling them liars, Caleb ?

Simple logic !

So, on the EV insurance issue, is there anyone out there that has both an EV and an equivalently outfitted ICE car? Maybe a Tesla Model 3 and a Lexus ES, for example. What are the comparative insurance rates? Apples-to-apples... same liability, collision, comprehensive, deductible, etc... otherwise it won't be a good sample.

I had my insurance company (Good Hands people) quote a Tesla 3 and compared against my wifes new RAM 1500, not exactly apples to apples except the vehicle price. Telsa was about 35% more due to collision coverage which was about 75% more. But not a deal breaker by any means.

My Teslas had higher acquisition costs, and definitely perform better than my ICE vehicles. My insurance rates for both are basically the same. But the reduced maintenance and fuel costs make the cost of ownership lower than my ICE vehicles. YMMV

Answer THIS question :

"Why do EV's need to accelerate like "supercars", while having only a 300 mile +/- range, when having only 50% of that power would DOUBLE their driving range ?"
Back in the 70’s when muscle cars reigned, we used to have a saying, “ban low performance drivers, not high performance cars. This came out when all the smog crap was being added to vehicles. I noticed back then that there were certain types/models of cars where the drivers just didn’t know how to drive or accelerate. The sad thing today is that many Tesla drivers I get behind fall into the low performance driver category. They can’t seem to figure out how to get that 0-60 in 1.9 seconds machine to move. They don’t accelerate at lights, they don’t keep up with traffic and they don’t accelerate to merge into the highway at proper speeds. It drives me nuts. I hate getting behind a Tesla driver…most of the time. I’ve driven one. They’re a blast, but if you can’t handle the car, get some little smart car and stay out of the way.

Agreed . . . The problem has never been the cars, but the idiots driving them. Unfortunately, after taking a good look around,"Drivers" have NOT improved with time, or technology ( Texting, while driving, for example ) . . . Quite the opposite, it seems.

If I ever get an EV, I may have to get one of these from the UK, so I can "blend in with the crowd" . . .

I think you need to keep your stories straight. Are EV drivers man-purse carrying bun-wearing sissies? Or are they manly-man supercar owners?

And here I am shocked, shocked I tell you that this thread wasn't started as an honest exploration of issues, but from a position of bias against EVs! Why, there also appears to be gambling going on in this casino!

That's your terminology. not mine.
Suuuuuure, that wasn't at all the implication of the meme you posted, or that you'd definitely have to get a clip-on man bun if you ever bought an EV. It really is amazing that people play blackjack just for fun even though there's no gambling going on in here!
And you are biased in favor of EV's . . . What's your point ?
You started the thread with a question, the one that's in the title of the thread. Someone might think that if you were posting a question, you might be interested in the answer. It is 100% clear that you're not interested in an answer, you're just interested in smearing EVs via "just asking questions." Commonly known as sealioning, or in political terms, push polling.

I'm biased in favor of EVs because of experience and information. My Nissan Leaf has been an absolutely fantastic car to own, though I recognize that the use case for us isn't universal because of its relatively short range. My previous EV was a mess, but it did some things well and was a proof of concept. You seem to be biased against EVs based on innuendo and fear.

You brought it up - how are you turning it around to be his terminology??
Simple . . . In the meme, the woman merely stated the steps that her "significant other" took.
Boatgeek chose to ascribe the term "man-purse carrying bun-wearing sissies" to the unknown person referred to in the meme.
I made no such connection(s), disparaged no one, or used "slurs", as Boatgeek chose to do.
Thus, it was "his terminology", not mine.

Yes, I thought the "clip-on man bun" was funny . . . If I got two, my wife could look like Princess Leia . . . LOL ! Now, I suppose you will accuse me of some sort of "attack on Star Wars characters" !

Indeed, I did start this thread with a question, supporte by LINKS to the information I used to formulate my opinion.

However, none of the responses were anything more than "personal opinion", extolling the virutes of EV's . . . No one supplied LINKS to information to support their positions. Cite your sources !

I am biased against EV's for the same reasons I have cited elsewhere . . . Nothing has changed.

(1) Initial expense
(2) Cost of eventual battery replacement
(3) Relatively short Range & lengthy re-charge times ( not talking about "charging while you sleep" or "running around town" . . . Real highway driving )
(4) Danger of fire, involving lithium batteries ( a firefighter on the forum already commented about that situation )
(5) Impact on the national power grid
(6) Toxicicity of Lithium after batteries are discarded ( it's impractical to try to recycle Lithium batteries )
(7) Incread insurance rates
(8) Having to go back to the dealer for anything more than "minor repairs"
etc, etc, etc.

That's OK, I'm sure on a forum that was hosted on stone tablets, someone extolled the virtues of the Horse and Buggy, citing that cars need gas and there are no gas stations, they are noisy, pollute, go too slow and they don't know the way home on their own.

Perhaps, but consider the fact that you don't have to shoot your ICE vehicle, if it breaks down ( although I have been tempted, at times ) . . .

Cite your sources . . . LOL !

Oh my. Your story is that it’s a person of indeterminate gender? I haven’t seen that lousy a retcon since Disney came out with a Star Wars movie.

Let’s take a look at the original meme and see if there are any clues.

“He left me…”

A clue, a clue! Golly gee, it turns out that every time, the meme refers to “him”! And imagine my temerity to think that referred to a man!

You know, if this troll thing doesn’t work out, you can always try to get a job as a test audience for Blue’s Clues. You have about the right ability to spot clues.

As for the slur, I was just saying the quiet part out loud. If you don’t like being called out that way, don’t dog whistle.

Try listening, for once . . . I never assigned any "labels" to anyone, that was you.

The woman said "he left me" that implies either a cisgender male or a person that identifies as male, in the 21st century.
Then, "he grabbed his man purse" . . . Same as above . . . As for the "man purse", perhaps the person had a lot to carry, similar to a backpack or shoulder bag, maybe.
Next, "he pulled his hair up in a bun" . . . The person has long hair.
Finally, he said he was leaving, after the car was charged up, probably a good idea with an EV.

From the woman's expression, the actions of the other person, obviously, upset her . . . Note that her "partner" ( We have no data on the type of relationship between them ) made no effort to discuss the situation with her. Rather, he immediately "went on the attack", without justifying or supporting his actions, in any way. Sound familiar ?

That's absurd. You literally started the entire discussion by sharing a meme with that phrasing.

It's pretty embarrassing when you can't even stand up for your own actions.
No, I started the disscussion with questions about EV's. You and Boatgeek "devolved" the thread into what it has become.

The only embarrassment should be on your part by, somehow, feeling the need to "read into" everything I said and adding your own distorted interpretation of it.

I speak very literally and plainly . . . If I were talking about a "Spade" and a "Hoe" ( gardening tools ), you would attempt to "morph" and twist my words into something quite different.

That poor lady! That cad left her simply because she didn’t like electric cars! The nerve!

But wait a minute. If that was actually the joke, it could have stopped right after the fact that he left her. Maybe included the bit about waiting an hour for the car to charge. That was kind of funny. No need to mention purses, buns, or the rest.

I don’t suppose it ever occurred to you that the whole middle was some kind of “code.” No, no, not at all. He had a purse because he had a “lot to carry.” Riiiiight. I’m not sure what’s funnier. That you thought that was a reasonable defense, in which case you’re so naive you haven’t even gotten on the turnip truck yet. Or that you thought that was a sly defense, in which case you are openly declaring that you’re that naive.

You are the one trying to "read into" everything I post . . .

A "Code" ? . . . Where is Nicholas Cage or Harrison Ford, when we really need them ?

I'm not "naive", at all, since you are the one constantly getting "drawn out" by my posts ( you simply can't help yourself ). Take the "focus" off of me and address the only real issues in this thread . . . My questions about EV's .
