why not just stay with the BT-80 and do a 29mm. That's something I might do.

The normal BT-80 with a 29mm upgrade is a great idea, but I already have lots of 3" tube, a 29mm motor tube, and an appropriate nose cone (two of them, actually, both 3"). So, I was looking for something to do with 'em.

Sorry for the delay, but I'll be starting this build thread up again...I have the parts cut from 1/8" basswood and now it's just a matter test fitting and gluing the pieces together.

Looks like those are laser cut.......so you did it ?

I`m getting an itch myself to get the plans and upscale this SOB.......it`s such a cool looking design ,although no surprise comming from creative mind of Douglas....he who is SHROX !

Did you get those done locally Dan ?

Afterburners...this is going to look awesome! this is a really neat rocket!! you could go crazy with paint schemes with this one!! like a Pips Priller FW-190 or something!

I'll get started on the wings this weekend. I have some projects I'm working on so I'll get those done today.

SHROX Rocks! He did an outstanding job on this kit...

Laying down a sheet of wax paper I glued up the wings and tail fin per instructions. Before gluing I lightly sanded the edges so they would adhere better. After they completely dried I applied some thin CA to the glue joints. I later came back and sanded the glue joints with 220 and then sanded the entire surfaces with 320. They are now ready to glue to the body. I'll test fit they before hand and sand the root edges if necessary for a square fit.

Attached the main wings to the airframe using that cheap ESTES fin guide. It works, but wish I had something else to use. Anyway they lined up nicely. Going to come back later and make the fin fillets. Using wood glue through the entire build process. I want to keep this bird pretty light. Maybe on the 29mm kit I'll use some epoxy for fillets.

Yeah we do!! I'm just keeping the pace and enjoying the build. I'm putting glue fillets on my second wing. Beautiful weather here....I'm enjoying the day!

Got the fillets applied on the main wings and now just letting it dry.

The kit calls for motors with short delays and I was curious if I could fly this on composite motors providing the motors still had the same delay. Since there is no ROCKSIM file I thought maybe someone out there can offer some motor suggestions. I'll have a combination of Kevlar (18") and Elastic (48") for a shock so I think I have some lead way.

22 degrees here going down to 17 tonite.

Guess I won't be painting anytime soon.

Your fillets are nice, is that epoxy??

I overbuilt mine (thick walled BT and corresponding slightly larger diameter nosecone). Weighed in at 360g. Rocksim file I patched together called for a 6 sec delay on an E28. The one time I flew it, the timing was pretty close. Waiting to get mine painted, after cleaning up the road rash from landing on tar. E18 called for a tad over 5 sec and F39 called for 6.5 sec

Thick walled is fine, but I think I would have gone with a 29mmt. Just saying

Looks great so far!!

Thanks NJRick...

Cut and glued up the wood dowels (1/8" x 5 1/4") to the wing tips.

Next I have to glue the wing ends @ a 30 degree angle to the wood dowels. I'll construct a guide out of card stock to get the angle correct and the wing end will rest at the correct angle as it dries.

Looking really nice! I just started mine. I opted for LOC tubing and NC, and went 29mm. I think a G77R is going to be nice.

requires you to glue them at a 30 degree angle from the wood dowel. I constructed a jig to get the correct angle unless you want to guess at it and the jig also helps to align the wing tip.

I constructed mine out of the center ring card stock which you can buy @ Apogee Components website.

NOTE: You don't necessarily need tape to hold the piece in place. It should tack up pretty quick with wood glue. Tape is just there to show you the way it would be positioned.

Next up is gluing the wing tips on...

Afterburners....this is really going to look cool. What a cool design!!! the wing tip reminds me of the XB-70 Valkrie.

got the wing tips glued up. Using the jig I made allowed for easy alignment. A thin film of Titebond and as it is being held in place I added a few drops of thin CA which wicked itself into the glue joint. Came out pretty nice. At least I didn't glue it to my fingers or the jig.:lol:

Looking great my friend. Your alignment looks perfect from here. Given much thought about a paint scheme yet? Oh, and don't let the dog get a hold of this one--I still have your other parts in the drawer--no concrete plans for those yet---Hey, have a great Thanksgiving--tell the other half I said Hi!!

Thanks Bill - Hope you and your better half have a great Thanksgiving too!

As far as paint not sure? I'm thinking about the original paint scheme, but then I might go camo...we'll see

I was productive today. I was able to get all the wings and fins glued and fillets applied. I still need to go back do some body work and primer this bird. I used Titebond II for the filets, but I think I need to go back and do them again with Titebond Molding and Trim, which I can never find. I might just fill the imperfections in the fillet with FnF and sand it. There will a lot of sanding I'm sure. We are expecting rain Thursday so I want to get it some primer on it before then. I had a bad experience with my body tubes swelling when they were exposed.

Tomorrow more pictures

I laid down a couple coats of Duplicolor red primer. Now the fun begins. The filling in of imperfections and sanding. Nah it's not that bad, but it needs to be done. Probably pick up work on this after Thanksgiving. I have some other projects I need to work on as well.

Thanks for following...
