why not just stay with the BT-80 and do a 29mm. That's something I might do.

The normal BT-80 with a 29mm upgrade is a great idea, but I already have lots of 3" tube, a 29mm motor tube, and an appropriate nose cone (two of them, actually, both 3"). So, I was looking for something to do with 'em.
Sorry for the delay, but I'll be starting this build thread up again...I have the parts cut from 1/8" basswood and now it's just a matter test fitting and gluing the pieces together.

Afterburners...this is going to look awesome! this is a really neat rocket!! you could go crazy with paint schemes with this one!! like a Pips Priller FW-190 or something!
Attached the main wings to the airframe using that cheap ESTES fin guide. It works, but wish I had something else to use. Anyway they lined up nicely. Going to come back later and make the fin fillets. Using wood glue through the entire build process. I want to keep this bird pretty light. Maybe on the 29mm kit I'll use some epoxy for fillets.

Dan, we must have ESPN...
Working on the same project as you.
I must say, those Basswood fins look exceptional!!
Keep on keepin' on!
Yeah we do!! I'm just keeping the pace and enjoying the build. I'm putting glue fillets on my second wing. Beautiful weather here....I'm enjoying the day!
Got the fillets applied on the main wings and now just letting it dry.

The kit calls for motors with short delays and I was curious if I could fly this on composite motors providing the motors still had the same delay. Since there is no ROCKSIM file I thought maybe someone out there can offer some motor suggestions. I'll have a combination of Kevlar (18") and Elastic (48") for a shock so I think I have some lead way.
I overbuilt mine (thick walled BT and corresponding slightly larger diameter nosecone). Weighed in at 360g. Rocksim file I patched together called for a 6 sec delay on an E28. The one time I flew it, the timing was pretty close. Waiting to get mine painted, after cleaning up the road rash from landing on tar. E18 called for a tad over 5 sec and F39 called for 6.5 sec

Looking really nice! I just started mine. I opted for LOC tubing and NC, and went 29mm. I think a G77R is going to be nice.
requires you to glue them at a 30 degree angle from the wood dowel. I constructed a jig to get the correct angle unless you want to guess at it and the jig also helps to align the wing tip.
I constructed mine out of the center ring card stock which you can buy @ Apogee Components website.
NOTE: You don't necessarily need tape to hold the piece in place. It should tack up pretty quick with wood glue. Tape is just there to show you the way it would be positioned.

Next up is gluing the wing tips on...
You can order the kit from SHROX. It's something like $15. I think I paid $13 for a nose cone...

Yeah it is a cool kit and would look even cooler as an upscale.
Looking great my friend. Your alignment looks perfect from here. Given much thought about a paint scheme yet? Oh, and don't let the dog get a hold of this one--I still have your other parts in the drawer--no concrete plans for those yet---Hey, have a great Thanksgiving--tell the other half I said Hi!!
I laid down a couple coats of Duplicolor red primer. Now the fun begins. The filling in of imperfections and sanding. Nah it's not that bad, but it needs to be done. Probably pick up work on this after Thanksgiving. Ihave some other projects I need to work on as well.
Thanks for following...
